A Guide to All Natural, Healthy, Wholesome Food for Cats

Gwendolyn Taylor
As a cat lover and owner, making sure my cat has the best food and care is of utmost importance. A lot of cat food brands out in the market today offer foods that contain animal by-products and chemically processed ingredients. These ingredients are cheap to make and act as "fillers", providing only temporary appetite-filling satisfaction for cats. Through my experience in purchasing various cat foods for my cat, here is a summary of the ones I have found to be most beneficial to my cat, naturally.

"Purina Naturals" Cat Food
Purina brand has become a recognized staple in the pet food department. In their long list of cat food products they have recently come with a more natural formula made without any artificial colors, flavors or preservatives. This high protein, natural fiber blend of whole grains and leafy greens keeps my cat healthy and wholesome. A single 3.5 pound bag retails for around $6 and is available in mass merchandise stores, grocery stores, and specialty pet stores.

"Authority" Cat Food

Primarily sold in specialty pet stores such as Petco and Petsmart, Authority brand has been a long favorite for my cat. Simple and all natural ingredients is what makes this food a huge plus for me and my cat. This brand also seems to keep my cat's appetite full and satisfied for a longer period of time, which is perfect for my cat since she is strictly indoors and does not get as much exercise. These come in smaller and larger size bags, and a 20 lb bag retails for about $25 and tends to last longer that most cat foods.

"Dick Van Patten's Natural Balance" Cat Food
This is probably one of the more expensive cat foods out in the market and probably one of the considerably health-conscious one out there. Formulated with grains that are certified free from genetically modified organisms and also made without meat by-products or artificial preservatives, this food has gotten its name out by supplying better quality food. This brand offers more variety in flavors, the only downside is the price. An individual 4 pound bag can cost at least $12-$13.

"Trader Joe's" Brand Cat Food
If you have a Trader Joe's store near you, you might want to check out their pet food section. They have two varieties of cat food there, "Ocean Fish" flavor and "Chicken" flavor. My cat seems to enjoy the ocean fish flavor the best, and with no added fillers or by-products, what's not to like? A 3.5 pound bag retails for around $5-$6, a decent price for healthier cat food.
