A Guide to All Natural Lip Balms

Gwendolyn Taylor
When it comes down to putting stuff on your lips, the ingredients should be the number one priority, since most of the balm that wears off will be ingested. If you are a lip balm addict, turning to all natural lip balms or creating your own should be a considered option. Here are a few tips to get you started in the right direction.

Yes To Carrots' "C Me Smile" Lip Butter is an excellent and highly recommended lip balm. It is made of all natural ingredients, 95% of which are certified organic. It comes in fun flavors such as "Citrus", "Mint", "Carrot", and others. What's great about this particular lip balm is that it is earth friendly and super effective. No matter how cold it is outside, the formula remains smooth and easy to apply and always provide your lips with a glossy sheen. This product can bout purchased at mass merchandise stores such as Target, drugstores, and beauty supply stores such as ULTA.

Burt's Bees brand of lip balms are also good natural lip balms to use. One downfall is that most of them are only 95% natural. They also do not have the same smooth application consistency as Yes To Carrots. However, since the brand is more widely recognized, more stores carry the products and are easily accessible.

Brands such as Kiss My Face and Aveda also offer natural lip balm alternatives. Other popular beauty brands such as Neutrogena, Sally Hansen, and Physician's Formula have come out with their own version of "natural" lip balms, but these are usually only 85% comprised of natural ingredients and are usually catered toward those who want to add a little color to their lips, not really for the main purpose of moisturizing.

Another alternative is creating your own homemade lip moisturizer. For this you will need the following ingredients handy: 1/2 tsp. Macadamia Nut oil, 1/2 tsp. Jojoba oil, 1 tsp. lanolin, 1/2 tsp. Cocoa butter, 1/2 tsp. beeswax shavings, 1/2 tsp. dried Chamomile flowers. Melt the 1/2 tsp. Macadamia Nut oil, 1/2 tsp. jojoba oil, 1/2 tsp. lanolin and 1/2 tsp. Cocoa butter in a double broiler until they are all liquefied. Add the 1/2 tsp. of dried Chamomile flowers and lightly for approximately ten minutes. Strain the mixture into a small glass bowl or ramekin. Pour the strained mixture back into the cleaned double boiler and heat up again. Add the other 1/2 tsp. of lanolin and the 1/2 tsp. of beeswax. Heat and stir until the mixture has liquefied completely. Remove the mixture from the heat and pour into a sturdy, clean container.
