A Guide to the Best Jelly Beans

Chen Salis
My family enjoys jelly beans year round, they are not just an Easter season treat with us. The reason I allow my family to consume jelly beans often is because they are small, fat free and tasty. Recently we found jelly beans marked down to pennies on the dollar thanks to seasonal clearance. I was able to purchase bags of jelly beans that were full price two weeks ago for as little as ten cents per bag. Among the brands I picked up were Lifesaver jelly beans and Speckled Jelly Eggs sold by Family Dollar stores. In this multiple product review I will share my thoughts and experience with these two brands of jelly beans to help other jelly bean loving consumers make an informed buying decision the next time they are looking for a sweet fat free snack option.

I loved the Jelly beans by Lifesaver. We had purchased them to go in Easter baskets this year, so we were familiar with the brand and quality. I liked the pretty pastel colors, and also the wide assortment of fantastic flavors available in each bag! You will find flavors like blueberry, strawberry- kiwi, red raspberry, watermelon, pina colada, banana, cotton candy and so on. These are not at all hard as some brands of jelly beans are and also a nice change from the standard flavors like orange, cherry, black licorice and so on. I think that the Lifesavers brand of jelly beans are as good as the more expensive brands such as Jelly Belly. I loved the price which was normally $1 per bag and that everyone enjoyed this Easter treat.

The Speckled Jelly Eggs I purchased from Family Dollar are made by Sunrise Confectioners, the bag is almost one pound, the price is normally $1. I was not as happy with this product. The jelly eggs are really sticky, and the flavors are not as distinguishable or good. These speckled jelly eggs are larger as you might expect, and they are very hard to chew. The consistency is like a hard stale gummy thing in a hard shell. This product just is not as good as you would expect from speckled jelly beans and it made me long for the standard old cherry and orange flavors in most bags of jelly beans. I cannot complain too much, I only paid a dime for almost a pound of candy, and eventually someone will eat these, so I did not lose out on much money on this less than good product. I will not purchase Speckled Jelly Eggs again.
