A Guide to Blue Bridesmaid Dresses for 2010

Combine Your Shade of Blue with the Hottest Bridesmaid Dress Trends of 2010

Tamara McRill
Blue is a common color that appeals to both brides and grooms, making blue bridesmaid dresses extremely popular. This is a good thing for the wedding party, as most women look good in blue. The color may be timeless, but wedding styles change every year. Hot bridesmaid dress trends for 2010 can be found in every blue hue imaginable. There are fashionable bridesmaid dresses for formal navy weddings, to the perfect Tiffany blue wedding.

Multiple Colors of Blue

The multiple-toned dress trend continues to be hot in 2010. This trend can be followed by using two shades of blue in the same bridesmaid dress or by having bridesmaids each wear a different shade of blue. The idea is to keep the colors complimentary, for a dramatic, yet cohesive, look. This trend is for the bride who desires wedding pictures with more depth and interest, as opposed to the flat appearance of a single colored lineup of bridesmaids. Allowing bridesmaids dresses in different shades of blue also allows them to be a little more individual, while still sticking to the brides color choice.

David's Bridal has an online color coordinator that allows bridesmaids to mix and match different shades of blue. The store has ten shades of blue to choose from and over 100 dress styles. There are dark navy blues, marine shades and colors that would mix and match well with a tiffany blue wedding. Most shorter bridesmaid dress styles are under $150.

Tulle Netting Bridesmaid Skirts

Tulle netting skirting is another hot bridesmaid trend for 2010. This style manages to look ultra romantic and fashionable at once. This is the perfect option for dreamy feminine wedding. The trend features skirts that tulle details, waterfalls and bridesmaid gowns that appear to have the fabric floating about the skirt.

Davinci Bridal's style 9129 ($150), is the latter style. The dress is floor length, with gauzy organza pickups. This bridesmaid gown is strapless, but an addition length of fabric can be purchased for $12 and made into straps. This dress is available in eight shades of blue.

Bridesmaid Dresses with Straps & Sleeves

Designers sent bridesmaid dresses with sleeves down the runway for 2010. This is an obvious effort to provide an alternative to the strapless gowns that have been dominating the bridal fashion scene in recent years. This year's sleeves are more of the strappy variety, with bateau necklines being extremely popular. This neckline lends bridesmaids an Audrey Hepburn look that would suit formal and semi-formal weddings. This is also a dress style that can transition easily to other events.

Priscilla of Boston carries a gauzy silk organza number by Melissa Sweet, Style MS405 ($278). This bridesmaid dress is available in a striking shade of peacock blue. The gown features a full knee-length skirt and classic bateau neckline. The low back dips gently, featuring two fabric flowers at the lower waist.

Straight Hemmed Bridesmaid Gowns with Asymmetrical Tops

Asymmetrical hems are out for bridesmaid dress fashion, but the new straight hem trend is being coupled with an asymmetrical neckline. This fashion ranges from one shoulder straps to gowns with a strap over the shoulder and one that is designed to look like it 'slipped' off the shoulder. This lends bridesmaids a deliciously disheveled look. Depending on the formality (or lack thereof) of the fabric and cut, this 2010 bridesmaid dress trend is ideal for informal and formal weddings.

Allure carries a one shouldered dress, available at eDressme ($130). This chiffon bridesmaid dress is available in over eight shades of blue, ranging from navy to the perfect turquoise for a tiffany blue wedding. The single strap is attached to a sweetheart neckline. The bodice is fitted and beautifully pleated, without being bulky. The high waist falls into a cocktail length skirt. The hem is straight cut, but loose enough to still be flirty.

Casual Cotton Blue Bridesmaid Dresses

Cotton blend bridesmaid dresses are an easy, yet elegant, trend for 2010. The fabric lends itself to airy casualness, while the cut and fit keep the dresses sophisticated enough to be part of a wedding. This style is perfect for a fun or sweet outdoor wedding or casual venue.

Thread's Bridesmaid collection has the ultimate casual blue dress, in their Shiloh mini ($290). This dress also hits the short, one-shouldered trends for 2010. The material is a blue and white cotton seersucker. The high-waisted, pleated skirt bells out nicely, without fussiness. The top features a pleated front, that continues to the shoulder, with a slight halter on the opposite side. The pleat stops at the shoulder and two bands of fabric continue to the waist, creating a pretty frame for your back.
