A Guide to Catholic Churches Located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin

To begin, one of the most active and lively churches in Milwaukee is St. Bernadette Parish. They offer numerous activities that members both young and old can take part in. You can play BINGO every Sunday evening in the church cafeteria, and all facilities are handicapped-accessible. This is a great opportunity to have some fun and make new friends.

Another activity that St. Bernadette Parish offers is called "St. Bernadette's Happy Wanders Walking Group." This is a walking group that is open to all members, and new members are always welcome to join. The main objective of this group is to improve your health by walking and having a good time. Walk's take place year round and consist of going and seeing places that show nature's beauty and God's creation. Aside from offering BINGO games and the Happy Wanders Walking Group, St. Bernadette Parish also offers Friday night fish fry's, golf outings, holiday craft fairs, rummage sales, and a Parish Festival once a year. While many churches offer an in-person tour, the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist has something special to offer those of you who may be nervous to go to the church or simply are not able to just go and tour the church in person. The Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist offers a virtual tour of the Cathedral hosted on their website, http://www.stjohncathedral.org. This is the perfect opportunity to view the outside and inside of the church.

One special feature that the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist offers is the ability to listen to 8:00 am Mass on Sunday mornings on the radio. Therefore if you are unable to drive or do not have a way to get to church in person, you can still be a member of the church and join in the service on the radio.

Other activities that the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist has to offer its members are a daily blog to post reflections and comments on the readings of the day and other pertinent news and comments. A Saturday Morning Book Club is also offered, and different books are read and discussed at meetings periodically throughout the months.

Finally, the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist has what they call "Wednesday Concert Series." These concerts are offered every Wednesday and include many different musical instruments and performers. So if you enjoy music, this is the perfect opportunity for you to become involved in the church.

One church located on the northern edge of the City of Milwaukee is St. Catherine of Alexandria Catholic Church. Commonly referred to as, "the church on the hill" because of its location, St. Catherine of Alexandria offers special services, activities, and events for all of its members. On the first Sunday of each month, a coffee and donut social are served after both morning Masses. Other parish socials include picnics and chili suppers which are held several times throughout the year. A service that is offered by the parishioners of St. Catherine is 'rides to mass.' This service provides transportation to those who do not have the ability to get themselves to church. If you are looking for a fun church to fulfill your spiritual needs, the Parish of St. Gregory the Great may be the perfect fit for you. This church offers a huge parish festival once a year. In fact this festival is recognized as one of the finest in Milwaukee, and in 2006 it was selected as the second best festival among nominated festivals in the Milwaukee Reader Survey conducted by Shepherd Express. Activities in the festival include rides (especially for the kids), game tables and card playing tables, lots of music and concerts as well as a dancing area. Food booths that offer plenty of varieties of food to choose from. And to top this festival off, a Sunday morning Mass is also offered outside on the festival grounds. Anyone is invited to the festival and you do not have to be a member of the church. This is the perfect opportunity to go and get a feel for the church and its members in a care-free and pressure-free environment. This is a fantastic opportunity to experience the parish of St. Gregory the Great.
