A Guide to Different Models of Terminators from the Movie Series

Mark Mielke
Many people today are big fans of James Cameron's Terminator series. It is hugely popular, spawning four feature films (with two more planned films in the works), a television series entitled Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and a wide assortment of video games, novels, comic books, and more. For those of you who are unfamiliar with Terminator, it is a story about a futuristic war between mankind and a computer system called Skynet. Skynet created machines called terminators to eradicate mankind after causing a nuclear holocaust. The purpose of the article you are reading is to help current fans understand the terminators a little better. It is a guide to different terminator models. Enjoy.

T-600

The T-600 is the earliest version of Skynet's terminator classes introduced in the movies and television series. They are slow and heavy, making them vulnerable to the quicker human soldiers. They're disguises are also mediocre at best, possessing rubber skin that resistance fighters can easily see through.

T-700

The T-700 is more advanced than their earlier counterparts but still inefficient when compared to later models. Before they were replaced with the T-800, they were the standard model for Skynet's foot soldiers. Though lighter and faster than their T-600 counterparts, they still are not good infiltrators, as their skin is also rubber.

T-800

The T-800 replaced all earlier models. They are the basic unit for Skynet's military forces. They are smarter, faster, and stronger than their predecessors. Their armor is also much improved, making them capable of sustaining more damage than the others. Their greatest asset is the use of real living tissue to cover their metal endoskeletons. They are very efficient infiltrators.

T-888

The T-888 is very similar to it's T-800 brother but is made out of colton instead of titanium. Colton has a higher melting point than titanium, making them more resilient to plasma and futuristic weapons. However, the softer colton makes them more vulnerable to regular gunfire. They possess identical infiltration abilities when compared to the T-800.

T-1000

The T-1000 was the first of Skynet's "liquid metal" terminators. It was designed to be the ultimate infiltrator. Being composed of liquid metal, the T-1000 can take any shape it needs to, as long as they are of similar size. It can look like whomever it wants. Hence the "ultimate infiltrator" title.

T-1001

The T-1001 is very similar to the T-1000. In fact, it is almost identical, except for a few small differences. The T-1001 is faster than the T-1000 and has a greater capacity for emotional response. It is also a more intelligent design.

T-X

The T-X is one of the most advanced terminators ever created by Skynet. It has a body similar to the T-800, except it is more polished and refined. The T-X also has much greater armor than any other terminator design, being able to survive direct hits from RPGs with no visible damage. It is almost invulnerable on the battlefield. The T-X is covered with liquid metal, allowing it to assume the identity of any person it wants. It is powered by a built in reactor, and has many built in weapons including a plasma cannon and a flamethrower. Using nanotechnology, the T-X can also remote control other machines.

H/K

H/Ks (short for hunter-killers) are the vehicle forms of Skynet's army. They come in the form of tanks and planes that need no pilot or driver. Their primary mission is to hunt down and destroy stray humans, though they also double as transports for terminators or capture prisoners.

Though these obviously aren't all of the terminator models, they are the ones found in the movies and the television series. Further research will be required if you want to learn more about other models of terminators and Skynet machinery.
