Like cable, DirectTV offers a variety of packages. Their base packages are: Total Choice, Total Choice Plus, Total Choice Premier, Family Choice and Titanium. Total Choice includes over 155 channels and 50 XM satellite radio channels. Each step up the Total Choice level adds more programming (and a higher monthly price).
The Family Choice package comes with handy parental controls that allow parents to set ratings, block channels, limit the number of hours for viewing and more. In addition, this package offers family friendly channels.
The Titanium package is the package loaded with every show, movie and sports subscription that DirectTV offers. This package is the Big Kahuna of packages and is only offered to a select few. Not everyone qualifies to become a Titanium ticket holder. Those who meet the qualifications to subscribe to Titanium get everything DirectTV offers, even unlimited pay per view, adult programming, sporting events and concerts. Titanium costs $7500 for a year.
NFL Sunday Ticket is a special package geared towards sports fans. With Sunday ticket, users can see 14 NFL Football games each Sunday of the season versus only 4 on cable. Sunday Ticket also includes 250 channels including local channels.
Satellite receivers for viewing DirectTV service come in a variety of configurations, basic, high definition and with or without DVR (Digital Video Recorder). A DVR allows users to pause live television and to record programming to a hard disc. The DVR enabled receivers and high definition receivers cost more. DirectTV currently charges about $6 extra per month for DVR service.
DirectTV also offers high speed internet access through partnerships with DSL providers such as Verizon, EarthLink, Bell South and Quest.
Before signing up for DirectTV, visit their website and compare packages and see what their current deal is. Offers change from time to time but you can often get free upgrades, free installation or some other perk. Once you"re ready, you can build your system online in a matter of minutes. DirectTV service works with your existing cable wiring in your home however a technician will need to come out to install the dish and connect it to your cabling.
