Getting Started:

" Finding the yards "

First thing you need to do is find the lawn job. This can be easily done by posting a free ad in your local news paper or by hanging up flyers at convince stores or laundry places or by handing out business cards! The best way I have found out how to get job's is simply by driving around and finding a lawn with tall grass that looks like it needs to be mowed and by knocking! Always be ware of signs for dogs or no trespassing or no soliciting signs if you see any of those it's best to just find a different house to knock on. You want stay out of trouble and be within good standards of your state laws. You might want to stop by the local police department and ask them if there is any just to be sure. If you find a house that has no signs and no one home I recommend using a pink while you where out sticky note saying you are mowing for such and such amount and please call me back if you would like this done. Thank You. It's as easy as that to get started.

Mowing Standards:

" What to do or not to do "

Once you have found a house that will let you mow you need to figure out where the property lines are located. Most of the time the neighbor next door has his already mowed which makes it simple on you just mow the tall grass! If you are un-sure please ask the owner of the place you are mowing where to mow and where not to. Always do a walk of the yard first and remove any tree limbs, rocks, or trash that should not be there and might hurt your equipment. Also remember to ask the owner if they have any gardens you need to watch out for usually these are in open site but it's still best to ask. Once you are ready to mow adjust the length of your mower blade. You do not want to cut the grass to low due to the fact it will burn the grass and that is not good. Some time's it's again best to ask the owner how they like it or how often would they like it mowed? This will give you an idea on how high or low to cut it. Always mow in straight up and down patterns this gives the yard such a nice look and if you can use a mower that has a bag. Another thing you should always do is ask if they want you to do any weed eating done. This will provide you with a chance to get a little more money for the job. The last but not least thing do not mow grass shavings into the street if you do sweep them up with a broom this includes the driveway or walk ways.

Being Turned Down:

" Do not get upset "

Remember before you decide to start doing this you will be turned down for job's by plenty of people do not take it to heart, There are so many people with finical problems or they just have there kids do it or they mow it them selves. Just realize mowing is some times the only exercise older people get and they depend on it. So just keep moving on job's will come along. Be curious and say thank you have a nice day. Remember your reputation in any town needs to be good to get business.

Safety Precautions:

" Better safe then sorry "

Always take safety precautions when mowing around people or other valuable objects. Make sure your equipment that is used for the job is not broke, Such as using a mower with out a safety guard. Never use it like that do you know how easy it is for a mower to launch a rock and take out a window or hurt some one? It's very easy to happen. Never put gas in a hot mower that has been used to mow with this can be very dangerous and I have witness horrible fires from doing this. Always make sure the mower is filled with fluids before attempting the job. Read all Safety information provided by your equipment and always ask the owner if you are un-sure of some thing.
