But how do we find sheet music to play? What free and pay sites are out there that have high quality sheet music that can be used for any one of the reasons listed above? Well that is what this article will tell you. This is your free sheet music guide. Check out the websites that I point out but make sure to read my description of what I like or dislike about that particular one. Also make sure to check out some actually pretty good paid sites that have almost EVERY single song you can think of at your fingertips at a pretty reasonable price.
Let's begin our free sheet music guide, shall we?
I bet a lot of you start at Google to find your free sheet music don't you? Well that's where I began in my search as well. When you type in "free sheet music" there are about 9 million different web sites you can go to that offer sheet music for free. Some are bad; some are good; some do not even have any sheet music on them at all! Here are some of the sites I went to:
FreeSheetMusic.net
This is the first entry in my Google search for free sheet music and the first entry into my free sheet music guide. This website seems very promising at first because (I mean come on) it has what we are looking for in the URL! You lose all your expectations however when you click through to their website.
Aesthetically is looks like a high school student made the website. The navigation is very hard to get through and, to be honest, I do not believe they have any sheet music on their actual site. Sure they have links beyond links beyond links of websites the supposable have the sheet music you are looking for but the actual site itself does not.
My recommendation is that you use the other sites that I mention for free sheet music after this one before even considering this site. It does have a lot of information and sites to go to but the headache it can cause probably will not benefit you.
8notes.com
This is the second entry in my Google search for free sheet music. Well boys and girls, this website actually DOES have free sheet music that you can download.
A couple of the great features are that it actually breaks down the different instruments that have sheet music (guitar, piano, etc), and it has lists that can be sorted by style, your experience level, artist and popularity.
A few things that I do see wrong with this site however is that it is a site that only gives you a taste for what they have to offer as of free sheet music. Most free sheet music songs are classical and not too popular "popular" songs. Their selection is not the widest in the world. The reason for this is that they want you to become a member of their site for a low yearly rate of $20. This isn't a bad price for a year, but if you are looking for free sheet music, this isn't your site.
Pianoworld.com
This would be the third entry on Google. This site I won't spend much time at because they are basically a website of links. If you type in "free sheet music guide" in Google, Piano World will come up, but so will every single website that is on their list of links. Why go to another page to get the same listing (and actually even a smaller listing).
Sheetmusicarchive.net
Sheet Music Archive also has free sheet music for your viewing pleasure. And this is a great site if you are looking for classical pieces to play. However for someone looking for a little bit more modern pieces, you really won't find much on this site.
That is my list of the tops sites for "free sheet music guide". There are 9 million sites that are just like these. Some might offer a little more, some might offer a little less, but they are all basically the same.
My suggestion to everyone reading is to do what I do when I am looking for sheet music. Pick a pay site and stick with it. Not only do pay sites have everything that you could want, any artist you could ever want, they also have easy to use websites that use the money that you give them monthly or yearly or per sheet as a way to better your experience through their site.
For me, my choice was MusicNotes.com. Their site is clean, non-cluttered and honestly has everything you could have ever imagined. On the homepage they have the top downloads which include the popular songs currently on the radio (Apologize by Timbaland right now). What a way to get sheet music!
Hope everyone enjoyed my article and I hope you find a pay site that can work for you to find the best sheet music possible. I love music and I love musicians and I hope you all stick to your craft. For all the newbie's out there, stick with it, everyone is going to tell you practice makes perfect and you know what? They are right!
