The fall season signals an end to extreme heat and drought for the garden as well as the gardener. Interest in the garden is renewed and garden shopping is back on the "to do" list. Fall is actually one of the best seasons for shopping, planting and working in the garden. The temperatures are cooler and the plants have ample time for the roots to become established before the ground freezes. The end of summer clearance sales on garden decor, perennials and garden tools is often a bonus for the wallet, too. Fall is not only the time for planting in the garden. It's the time to think ahead to spring. There's still much left to accomplish in the fall season before putting the garden to bed for the winter. There are several places I always check when I'm fall garden shopping. Some might be obvious places to shop for the garden in the fall, but the first store on my list might come as a surprise.

One of my favorite supermarkets is also one of my favorite places to do garden shopping for perennials. The fall season is no exception. Kroger's front sidewalk will be brimming with beautiful fall blooming perennials.
