Elementary schools in Kentucky are also haunted as is the case of the former Hickman County Elementary School, which was destroyed by a fire in 1998. According to legend the school was built on an old cemetery and haunted by those graves left forgotten. There were stories of weird noises, slamming doors and kids being locked inside rooms.
The old Combs School in Combs once housed kids up to eight grade, but now all that's left of this abandoned school are the ghosts. The school was condemned and closed down, which makes it even weirder when people see someone walking around inside. Many believe the ghost is that of the long-time former principle of the school. People also hear odd noises and see things from the corner of their eye at the haunted West Hopkins Accelerated School in Dawson Springs, Kentucky.
The little girl's room at the Lyon County Elementary gym in Eddyville is also rumored to be haunted. Supposedly a former student was stabbed to death in the bathroom and now wreaks havoc on the area. Students and staff see dark shadows, lose things, hear someone knocking on the stall and have the water come on when no one else is around.
There are also stories told about the Arlie Boggs Elementary School in Eolia, Kentucky. The school received so many complaints about the downstairs bathrooms that they built new ones and closed the old ones. Now people hear the sounds of a woman screaming and a baby crying from the closed down bathrooms. Students at the Black Mountain Elementary School in Evarts often hear the sounds of people running down the halls and giggling, even when no one is around.
Students at the Yealey Elementary School in Florence tell stories about a construction worker who was decapitated in the cafeteria. His ghost now supposedly haunts the same room where he died. The Old Greensburg Elementary School is haunted by several ghosts including that of a woman who killed herself by jumping from the building. Other stories relate to a young girl sitting in the windows and eerie noises heard late at night. Ghost hunters also have the Hall Elementary School in Harlan, Kentucky where a janitor accidentally died after falling in the furnace. Stories include dark shadows and the sounds of someone running through the building.
The Beechfork Elementary School in Helton only became haunted after the school was closed. That's when people began hearing kids running through the school and see lights on inside, even though there's no power. There are also stories of an older man walking outside the school, the ghost of the man who donated the land for the school. The W.B. Muncy School in Leslie County is haunted by ghosts from the nearby cemetery including that of a headless man.
Students at the Jackson Independent School in Jackson tell stories about the ghost of a little girl named Maxine. Supposedly the girl had an epileptic seizure there in the 1920s or 1930s and died on the stairs. People see her looking out the window, see doors open on their own and find things moved. Also haunted is Jessamine's West Jessamine High School. The property has its own cemetery and the football field was built on top of a grave used after cholera swept the region.
The Meyzeek Middle School in Louisville is also haunted, this time by the ghost of a former student who was murdered in the lobby. Students claim that the annual lock-in is cursed by the boy and that others have things stolen or hear odd things in the school.
There are a few haunted schools in Owensboro including the Catherine Spalding Elementary School. Legend says that two girls died there in 1899 when the school was hit with an earthquake. The new school was built on top of the old school and those two girls now haunt the art room. Stories also surround the Davies County Middle School and the 3rd floor girls room where people hear a woman screaming. Screams are also heard at the Owensboro Catholic Middle School and students claim there are blood stains on the floor. The Old Whitesville Public School is also rumored to be haunted, with stories of lights turning on and doors shutting on their own.
In Paducah the Emma Morgan Elementary School is haunted by several different ghosts, included that of a bike rider near the playground. There are also stories about people hearing someone walking or talking in the hallway when the area is deserted. Oddly enough, the Paducah Middle School is haunted by the ghosts of four men in gangster style suits who roam the hallways late at night.
Paintsville Elementary School in Paintsville is haunted by the ghost of a family in one classroom and other ghosts that make strange noises late at night. Two Perry County, Kentucky schools are haunted including the Lost Creek Elementary School where the ghost is that of the former gym builder who fell from the top. The gym at the Willard Elementary School is supposedly haunted by flowing figures and some claim to see blood running down the walls.
The ghost of a female student named Connie haunts Pineville Independent Schools. Students claim she likes playing with students in the girls' room by opening the stall door and playing with the lights or faucets. Those who stay late at Adams Middle School in Prestonsburg, Kentucky claim to see a ghostly woman in black who cries out in the hallway and also moves furniture or plays with the doors.
Legend claims that the Madison Middle School in Richmond, Kentucky is haunted by a man who was murdered in the building. Other stories claim that a cheerleader was raped and killed there and that the land was once used as a Civil War hospital and dozens of men died there.
A former student who hung himself at Brown Street Educational School in Vine Grove now supposedly haunts the building. People feel and hear someone over their shoulder and see lights come on when the school is closed for the night. The ghost of a little girl in a yellow dress haunts the Whitley County Middle School and can sometimes even be seen singing or running through the hallways. There's also odd things that happen at the Williamsburg Independent Schools such as an Indian chief or lights turning on and off. Legend claims the school was built on top of a cemetery.
Who knew that this one little state had so many haunted schools for younger kids?
