Lactobacillus Acidophilus is also known as "good bacteria." These type of microorganisms help aid in a healthy digestive system. Not only is Acidophilus a supplement, but it is found in foods that you eat such as yogurt and soy fermented products like meso. There are some people who often have digestive issues that require prescription or non-prescription medications. Those who suffer from IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome), Crohn's disease or other digestive issues can benefit from the "good bacteria" found in Acidophilus. Such individuals may decide to purchase Acidophilus as an alternative to other prescription medications instead. Some are also more comforted at the fact of taking natural forms of medicines instead of prescriptions.
Uses
Presently, Acidophilus has not been approved by the FDA to treat diseases. It also has not been tested for safety, effectiveness and purity. Some experiments that scientists or other patients have tried, they have found some success with the body's conditions when taking regular doses of Acidophilus. Some of these include diarrhea prevention, hay fever, vaginal disorders, eczema, lactose intolerance, intestinal disorders and immune function. While there is some unclear scientific evidence that Acidophilus actually does help with these disorders, the level of healthy bacteria has been known to help with some of these conditions during experimental trials.
Dosing
The supplement, Lactobacillus Acidophilus is taken by mouth as a capsule or tablet. Some doctors may also give it as a vaccination to treat yeast infections too.
Side Effects
There are few side effects from the supplement Lactobacillus Acidophilus. Those who have a lactose intolerance may experience some allergies from small amounts of lactose leftover from the manufacturing process. They may experience some small amounts of digestive discomfort. Infants, children, older patients, those with gastrointestinal disorders, short bowel system or high fever should use Acidophilus with caution. Patients who have milk allergies and weakened immune systems should avoid use of the supplement.
Purchase
Acidophilus is bought over the counter in pharmacies and mass retail stores. When ordering the supplement online, make sure you are using a website that has secure payment options. Before taking Acidophilus, contact your doctor or primary care physician. It is always important to keep your primary doctor up to date on current prescriptions and over-the-counter medicines that you are taking. Without the proper information or if you mix the wrong types of medicines together, it can cause illness. Always tell your doctor before you start taking any new type of medication. He will give you the best advice for dosing.
