Tarrant County has a colorful past and in the fall it really comes alive and shows its vibrancy for Halloween.

There are a variety of local haunted houses that require tickets and have scheduled times for your enjoyment in Fort Worth, Texas and surrounding areas:

One of the most famous of them all is, of course, The Cutting Edge at 1701 E. Lancaster Avenue that was most recently featured in Fort Worth Weekly. Located in a 100-year-old abanonded old, huge meat packing plant, it is positioned near downtown and won the Guiness Book of World Records award for longest walk through a haunted house. The section of the town that the haunted house is located in is nicknamed "Hell's Half Acre," according to one site. The website for the event, which is built upon a foundation of horror, is cuttingedgehauntedhouse.com, and phone number is 817-348-8444.

One of 18 most unique haunted houses in the country, The Cutting Edge spans 235,000 square feet and is appropriate for ages ten and up. They're famous for their hard-hitting music and industrial atmosphere. Hours are 8-9:30 p.m. and they're open three Sats. and one Fri. in September.

Go to the bathroom beforehand.

This year Hangman's House of Horrors celebrates its 22nd year as the top charity-benefiting spook house in the nation. Located next door to Magic; Etc. Costume Shop at I-30 and Forrest Park Boulevard in Fort Worth, their website is hangmans.com. The address is 2300 W. Freeway (817-336-2111). The last night open is Oct. 31.

The Boneyard Haunted House, located at Highway 360 and Division across from Six Flags Over Texas in Arlington, features good old-fashioned blood-and-guts scare tactics and high-tech effects. The website is theboneyard.org and the physical address is 2921 E. Division Street. There is no age limit but it is not recommended for small children.

Don't be surprised while going through the event if you get blasted with a shot of air, among other things.

The Chaos Haunted House is one of the many attractions at the Texas Scaregrounds that was voted one of Haunted Attraction Magazine's Must-See Haunted Houses last year. This year Mischief Manor has been added to the schedule. Hours are Fri.-Sun. nights. and nightly starting Oct. 21. The address is 800 W. Kennedale in Kennedale and website is texasscaregrounds.com.

Benefiting the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Moxley Manor opens its doors Sept. 24 at 510 Harwood Road, Suite 0 in Bedford. The website is moxleymanor.com and hours of operation are 7-10 p.m. weekdays, and 7 p.m. to midnight weekends.

An investor once took over the estate in hopes of turning it into a bed and breakfast but he was later found hanging in a bedroom there.
