A Guide to the Low Bun Hairstyle

Erin Rivera
One of the most popular hairstyles that has been done for many years is the low bun hairstyle. This is basically a bun done at the base of one's neck. This style can work well with medium length hair to long hair and is fairly easy to do. It is very popular because one can easily dress it up for a more formal occasion or they can do their hair this style for anything as simple as running errands or relaxing around the house. Here is a look at how one can obtain this hairstyle.

To begin with you should always start out with clean hair if possible. Shampoo, condition and rinse and normal and then blow dry your hair while applying a small amount of mouse or gel if you need to to keep it smooth. You can use a regular comb or a large barrel brush to obtain the best results in getting smooth, silky hair that is easy to work with.

Once your hair is dried and combed out you will want to brush it back into a low pony tail at the nape of your neck while securing this pony tail with an elastic hair band. These hair bands are fairly common and inexpensive and they can be found at a number of different retailers. They also come in a variety of colors so if you are concerned over them showing you can easily find a color similar to your own hair color to blend in or a color similar to the colors in your outfit.

After you have your hair in a low pony tail you will want to wrap the pony tail around the base near the elastic band. For an extra special look you can always put your hair in a braid first. Once you have wrapped it around you will want to secure it in place with some bobby pins or decorative hair pins. For more formal occasions you will probably want to stick with decorative hair pins.

For a softer look with this style you can get a few strands of hair on each side of your face and curl them into ringlets. For those who have bangs you can also get a large barrel curling iron and do a pretty fringe up top to give it a sophisticated, elegant look.

If you are concerned about fly-away hairs you can easily add a small amount of gel or hair spray to ensure that all the little hairs are kept in place and your hairstyle looks great no matter what occasion it is.
