Location
Michigan State University located in East Lansing, just a few minutes away from the capital of Michigan. It is in the proximity of Detroit, Traverse City, Grand Rapids, Flint, Kalamazoo, Jackson, Chicago and Toronto.
Bordering MSU is the city of East Lansing where you will find many shops, eateries, boutiques, churches, professional theater company, and even the minor league baseball team, Lugnuts.
Admission
High School senior students are encourage to submit applications early since admission is very competitive. It generally takes 10 to 12 weeks for a decision to be confirmed. Fill out an online application for a faster process, and also provide you the ability to track your application's status. For fall enrollment, your application should be in by November 1st to maximize your scholarship consideration.
MSU accepts freshman, transfer, international, graduate, and guest students. The requirements for each group are different. Make sure you check it out before submitting your application to avoid delay in admission.
Financing
Form for financial aid from federal government and the university is available to U.S. citizens and permanent residents. This includes educational costs, and personal living expenses. Forms should be filled out as soon as possible after January 1st, since funds are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. Scholarships are automatically considered for admitted students through Michigan State's extensive program of merit. Eligible students will be notified if additional information is required. Remember, your application must be submitted by November 1st.
Academic programs
MSU has an extensive field of majors. Whatever academic goals you have in mind, Michigan State has a program of study to fit your needs. There is no pressure in stating a major right away. The MSU Honors College, the oldest and most prestigious program, allows students to tailor their own academic study to meet their individual desire.
The average number of students in undergraduate classes is between 34 and 47. Only about 6 percent of classes at Michigan State have more than 100 students. This ratio is ideal for better success.
MSU offers more than 230 programs in 62 countries on all continents for those who want to study abroad.
Campus Housing
Michigan State has the largest single-campus residence hall system in the nation. Freshmen are required to live on campus. Each of 23 undergraduate residence halls offers cable, Ethernet access, caller ID, and voice mail.
There are four meal plans available to meet every one's needs. There are also 14 dining rooms offer low-fat, low-salt, low-cholesterol, and vegetarian entrees at every meal.
You can learn, work, and serve in Residence Halls Association besides sleep and eat on campus housing.
Student Life
There are plenty of ways to balance your academic and social life. Many activities are free or offer at a student discount. Sports and recreation such as tennis, basketball, ice hockey, golf, fitness facilities, and of course the Spartan football team will keep students occupied in their free times.
If you are not into sports and recreational, there are arts and entertainment available. Michigan State is home to planetarium, art museum, musical, theatrical, and dance. You can attend or also participate in these activities.
There are also 550 registered student organizations. So if you are looking for a specific group that shares your ethnicity, religion, hobbies, or career, you would definitely find one in your interest.
