A Guide to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina Nightlife

Lisa Miller
Nothing is more relaxing than a day on the beach under the sun. You're just resting up so you can get your party on all night. No matter what your style is, Myrtle Beach has a nightlife venue to suit you and what you're into. Theres a party every night on the Grand Strand, and places like Broadway at the Beach and Barefoot Landing just add to the fun. Heres a look at some tried and true nightlife, reviewed by me.

To start things off, I'll give you a little history on what I'm into. I go where the party is at. When I'm on vacation, I like to relax with a good mixed drink or beer, good friends, and a hell of a good time. If the party is not hopping, I'm not there, its that simple. So when I travel, I waste the day away sleeping on the beach just to party all night. Keep in mind I go to Myrtle Beach once or twice a year. I know the places that are worth the time and money, and also the places to avoid.

Broadway at the Beach has some of the best nightlife of anywhere, let alone the top nightlife of Myrtle Beach. There is such a variety of hot spots, all in one place. Visit Celebrity Square and see it all. Most bars and clubs are just a few steps away from eachother. Start off in the Celebrity Square section at Broadway at the Beach. Check out Malibu's Surf Bar. You can't miss the sound of good dance music pumping out the door. This venue has nightly specials and events all season long. You can dance to your favorite party mix, grab a specialty drink and mingle with the locals at this spot. This club is open till three am, so you can party till the wee hours of the morning. If you like Karaoke and a good time, check out Broadway Louie's. You can get on the huge stage and sing Karaoke in the spotlight. If you think you've got talent, or just want to prove to your friends that you sang Karaoke, they will make a video of you in the spotlight. This spot is good for an all-around good time. Club Boca is one of the clubs where you want to dress to impress. It is a big city like club, with a mix of Latin, House, and Techno dance beats. This spot is a good time all night, and one of the places you will want to be. If you want to see a live band, check out Froggy Bottomz. This is a fun spot with some great music, and a more low key atmosphere.

One of the best times ever, can be had at Senor Frogs at Broadway at the Beach.. I was there during Cinco De Mayo, which was insane. They had live bands, jello shots, and gorgeous people everywhere. People of all ages (21 and up that is) were dancing, laughing and having a great time. Shot girls were pouring Tequila shots down guys and gals throats, and it was just a blast! People were fun, the atmosphere was great, we came back the next night. Its the same great fun every night, and definitely an awesome party spot.

Club Kryptonite is a huge party spot for locals and tourists alike. Its huge building has room for a giant party crowd. They are always hosting huge events, have great drink specials, and incentives to get you their to party. They play the best dance music and have a great party atmosphere. Definitely a great spot to party, this is where most of the beach is at. This is also a place you will come back to every year.

If you're looking to meet some new friends while having a good time, check out Marvin's. This is a spot where the locals go, and boasts to a large crowd of regulars. Situated on the boardwalk, we stopped in one night just to have one beer, and ended up staying all night. Everyone at Mavin's is nice, and has a story to go along with them. You can make friends with the locals, and meet up with other tourists. This is the best low-key spot in Myrtle Beach, and one of the places we hit up every year. You can literally sit and make new friends all night. Marvin's makes you feel like you are at home.

If you're looking for a down right good time with some history check out The Bowery. Home of the fifty cent draft, this bar was where the country group Alabama was discovered. Great bands pump out the hits every night. You can dance, and get your drink on for the cheapest price of anywhere. You can also meet some nice people at this joint, and have an all around good time. Bring one dollar bills, the few times I have been here we have bought fifty cent drafts and paid with a five and never got our change back. That is one drawback, but otherwise, its a great country atmosphere and a fun time.

Studebaker's has one of the neatest fifties beach atmospheres inside, but it was empty. It was a lot of fun, but there was noone there. It had a fun appeal, but was home to a select older crowd of people. I'm sure in its day, the place was hopping, but it was sad that noone was out at this venue. It would have been more fun if there was a party crowd, otherwise the place was really cool. They pumped out music from all genres and ages, and had waitresses dressed in cheerleader uniforms. Unfortunately, due to a lack of a party crowd, we will not be going back.

The Beachwagon boasts that it has line dancing lessons, country events and fun times. We attended "Country Girls Gone Wild", an event we heard about on the radio all week. We figured it would be an all out country party, with prizes, drink specials and good fun. Well, at twenty three, our crowd was the youngest ones there. The country girls that were going wild were all at least twice our age. The crowd was boring, it was no fun at all. We had been there once the year before, and noticed the same thing. Due to lack of an atmosphere, we will never go back. Also home to some of the most unfriendly people. When you walked in the door, you felt like a tourist and almost like people wanted nothing to do with you, including the staff. To put it this way, we barely even got waited on.

Hopefully I helped you a little with your party plans while in Myrtle Beach. This was a list of places to go, and a few places not to even waste your time at. These are a few spots that are great for any type of party people. Just go and have a good time, let go and party on. A great time is waiting for you!
