During Reiki shares, a recipient lies on a massage table and other practitioners gather and place their hands upon the recipient, giving a communal flow or Reiki energy. These group healings are very powerful and as such, usually only last about twenty or thirty minutes.
Public Reiki Shares
Public Reiki shares are open to anyone and everyone. Public Reiki shares are often given to draw in people who know little about Reiki and might want to learn more. They are great for Reiki practitioners who have not had much experience treating other people. Many practitioners come to public Reiki shares to gain experience and confidence before giving formal treatments of their own.
Locating public Reiki shares that are open to anyone is not always easy. Most of the time public Reiki shares are free or very inexpensive and so they aren't very well advertised. Some good places to look for public Reiki shares in your area include bulletin boards in natural health stores, public libraries and metaphysical bookstores. You may also be able to find public Reiki shares by searching the internet.
Private Reiki Shares
Private Reiki shares are usually invitation only gatherings and are often held in someone's home or private property. Private Reiki shares offer opportunities for practitioners to learn new techniques and discuss personal experiences with Reiki. Private Reiki shares are comprised of practitioners who know one another personally and so are much more relaxed than public Reiki shares.
Private Reiki shares are very helpful to new practitioners because it gives them a chance to learn from seasoned healers and practice Reiki among them. Reiki shares are a safe place to experiment and ask questions. They are a learning experience for Reiki practitioners.
Etiquette of Reiki Shares
Reiki shares are held in sacred space and as such, practitioners are expected to conduct themselves with proper respect and courtesy. This doesn't mean that Reiki shares are all seriousness but that they should be friendly and loving.
The most important thing to remember at Reiki shares is to honor the confidence of everything that happens during a healing. If you are unsure what should be kept in confidence and what's okay to repeat, it is best not to repeat anything. The healing journey is a very private matter for most people.
You should also respect all rules the host of Reiki shares has established. The host should be honored and respected for opening their heart and home to the share.
In addition, respect the recipient. Reiki is a sacred thing and you should focus fully on the recipient while giving of the Reiki energy. Do not ignore the recipient and chat with other guests at the share.
The Aftermath of Reiki Shares
Attending Reiki shares will leave you feeling tired and drained. This comes from taking in so much energy in such a short period of time. You will not want to attend a Reiki share if you have to go to work later in the day (or night) or if you have anything else of importance to do. You'll need rest and relaxation after attending Reiki shares.
