A Guide to Replica Rolexes: Are They Worth It?

We all know that even if Rolex is not one of the top 10 watch brands in the world, that it is a sign of prestige. The word rolex has become synonymous with luxury. However, most of us can not afford to buy a Rolex from $9,000 to even $100,000.

Yes we have all heard of those fake Rolexes in China town and in Mexico but those are cheap and break in a few days. However, few people know that their are several types of replicas.

There are 5 grades, grades 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5. Each one has different quality to it. Let's start with Grade 1.

Grade 5 watches are the ones that you may find in Chinatown or Mexico for a couple of dollars. These are typically made in Asia and feature movements made in China. These are normally battery powered watches, and do not feature the "sweeping" second hand.

Also,the second hand does NOT stop when the crown is pulled out. It should. It is normally used with fake gold, a quality lower than gold plating. These run anywhere from $1 to $150. These use plastic glass.

Next we have Grade 4. These are Japan-made watches. These feature a Miya Co. 21-Jewel movement. This means it never needs a battery. These are gold plated watches. The big difference is the gold plating and no battery. These use mineral glass. These run anywhere from $30 to $250.

Grade 3 is a high quality Japan-made watch. It features a better movement. A big difference is real steel. Also, all have a hacking signal. These run from $150 to $500

Grade 2 are also Japan-Made. They feature a swiss movement. They are basically Japan-made with swiss parts. This features low quality sapphire crystal.These run from $300-$700.

Last, we have Grade 1. These are Swiss-made watches and VERY close to the real thing. These can have solid gold. The gold color is very close. It has 440 steel. It has a good sapphire crystal. It even features a micro etched crystal. Most rolex dealers can not tell the difference! These run anywhere from $200 to $1200.

Now that we know a little bit about watches, we need to talk about dealers. Many dealers are a scam. They just take your money and run. Below you will find a couple of good dealers that I have dealt with.
