A Guide to Roddy Piper's Wrestlemania Matches and Appearances
The "Hotrod" Has Made Many Memorable Wrestlemania Appearances
Wrestlemania: The first Wrestlemania was a huge spectacle and the main event featured the tag team of Hulk Hogan and Mr. T taking on Roddy Piper and Paul Orndorff. This was an excellent match between the two teams and Piper showed his main event power even though he got the loss in his first Wrestlemania match.
Wrestlemania 2: Piper would continue to feud with Mr. T heading into the next year's Wrestlemania where he would take him on One-on-One in a boxing match. The match started out like a normal boxing match until the punches turned into shoves and eventually there was a body slam. This was a fun feud for wrestling fans and really showed what a great performer that Piper was.
Wrestlemania III: Piper's appearance at Wrestlemania 3 was supposed to be his retirement match, but history shows that it was far from it. The match was a Hair vs. Hair match where he would go up against Adrian Adonis and the loser would have their hair shaved off. With a little help from Brutus Beefcake, Piper got the win with a sleeper hold and Beefcake is the one who actually cut the hair off.
Wrestlemania V: Two years after Wrestlemania III, Piper returned to the WWE ring for his popular talk show, The Piper's Pit. His guest was Morton Downy Jr. and after a couple of minutes of blowing smoke right into Piper's face, Piper got him back by spraying him with a fire extinguisher. This was a funny segment that is still replayed many times to this day.
Wrestlemania VI: Bad News Brown had been accusing Piper of being racist, and Piper's response to that was painting half of his body black before their Wrestlemania VI match up. This was an odd and unusual ring presence that showed more of Piper's uniqueness, but it ultimately worked out and both wrestlers fought to a double count out.
Wrestlemania VII: Piper was Virgil's corner for Wrestlemania VII as Virgil took on his former protégé, the Million Dollar Man Ted DeBease. DeBease ended up losing when he chased Piper out of the ring and was counted out.
Wrestlemania VIII: Roddy Piper's only WWE title was the Intercontinental title and he won it from the Mountie at the 1992 Royal Rumble.two months later, he would be defending that title against Bret Hart in an instant classic that was one of the best matches on the card. There was a lot of back and forth action and Piper lost when Hart rolled him up for the Intercontinental title victory.
Wrestlemania X: Piper was in the Wrestlemania main event again, but this time as special referee in the match between Yokozuna and Bret Hart. Hart got the victory and the three count from Piper in a great special referee role that added even more to the match.
Wrestlemania XII: At Wrestlemania XII Piper was the acting WWE President, but he gave up his rights to face Goldust in a Hollywood Backlot Brawl. The match ensued was pure choas, even including a high speed chase, baseball bats, and eventually Piper stripped Goldust of the wrestling suit he was wearing. There was really no winner in the match, but it was one of Piper's most bizarre moments in the WWE.
Wrestlemania 21: Piper's last appearance was at Wrestlemania 21 where he brought back his Piper's Pit segment to feature Stone Cold Steve Austin as a guest. This was a funny segment featuring the back and forth between both Piper and Austin and when Carlito interrupted, they both attacked him and Piper through him out of the ring. Piper then received a Stone Cold Stunner and Austin celebrated with the fans.
Piper recently made an appearance at the 2008 Royal Rumble so he could appear at Wrestlemania at any time in the future and create more great memories for WWE fans.
