A Guide to St. Patrick's Day Events in DC

For some, the perfect St. Patrick's Day is visiting Ireland. For others, it's going to Savannah, Ga. For their St. Patrick's Day weekend. For those who won't be traveling out of Washington, DC, there are some great events to get into the St. Patrick's Day Spirit!

Elliot in the Morning Kegs and Eggs 11 at the 930 Club: Entering its 11th year, DC 101 kicks off the Saint Patrick's Day weekend with a live broadcast of their show at the 930 club. This year's show features live music from Jet, Andrew W.K., Carbon Leaf and Crash Kings. The show starts at 8:00 a.m. on March 12th, but I recommend early arrival because past show had very long lines. This event is for those ages 21 and up.

Midtown Leprechaun Leap: Entering its 9th year, The leprechaun leap covers the DuPont Circle/Golden Triangle area with 8 hours of fun and festivities. The bars that are participating in this event include Mackey's, Rumors, Public Bar, Blackfinn and more. They will provides drink specials like $2 Coors Light and $5 Jameson drinks. The event takes place on March 6th at 1 p.m., and the age limits for this event is 21 and up. Advance tickets go for $7, and they can be purchase on the Lindy Promotion website. You can buy your tickets on the day of the event for $13 or $10 with 2 can goods at Mackey's at 1823 L Street, NW.

ShamrockFest: It has become one of the East Coast largest Saint Patrick's Day Event. Since this event was moved to the RFK Stadium grounds in 2007, ShamrockFest has brought in bigger acts, more stages and more attractions. This year's show featured big time acts like The Roots, Train, Stephen Kellog and the Sixers, Seven Nations, Carbon Leaf and more. In addition to live music, There's a DJ area features 15 of the finest DJs. For $24.99, you get 5 stages of entertainment, 10 party zones, college hoops viewing area and more. The event takes place on March 13th at the RFK Stadium Grounds. Like the old location, this event is located close to the Stadium/Armory Metro Station.

St. Patrick's Day at The Millennium Stage: From March 16-18th, the art of Ireland makes it way to the Kennedy Center. For 3 days, Millennium Stages will showcase the art and music of the Emerald Isle. It starts with performances from the Cullen School of Tradition Irish Dance on Tuesday. On Wednesday, husband and wife team of Batt and Maura Burns performs with song and folktales. The closing night concert features long time Irish Folk group Frankie Gavin and DeDannan. All shows at the Millennium stage starts at 6 p.m. There's a pre show happy hour with drinks and snacks half off from 5-6 p.m.

DC Saint Patrick's Day Parade: What would Saint Patrick's Day be without a parade? On March 14th, the 39th annual St. Patrick's Day Parade returns to DC with this year's theme being "The Irish That Built America." This event runs 2.5 hours on Constitution Avenue. You can watch it from either the street side or the grandstand where tickets are $10. It's best to use metro (Archives/Navy Memorial) to get there.
