A Guide for Students to Sophomore Housing at the College of New Jersey

Rae
Housing at The College of New Jersey is assigned by year. As a sophomore, students are given the option to live off campus but are still guaranteed campus housing if they choose to accept it. Most TCNJ sophomores do live on campus. TCNJ offers three residence halls to sophomores.

Centennial Hall
Centennial hall is widely known as the dump of all TCNJ dorms. However, it is not nearly as bad as anyone claims it is. The building is old, but the rooms are fairly large - larger than any rooms in any of the freshman dorms. There are two wings to Centennial Hall, a guys' wing and a girls' wing. The girls' wing is toward one of the TCNJ lakes, so if you get an odd numbered room on the girls' side there is a fairly nice view. The girls' wing is three stories tall while the guys' is only two. The main entrance is on the second floor, so if you don't like stairs that's where you want to be. Rest rooms are on each floor in each wing and are maintained by the cleaning staff. Centennial hall did have some problems with flooding in the girls' first floor during the 2006-2007 school year.

New Res
New Res is the newest dormitory on campus and is generally considered to be a fairly nice dorm. Because it is new it does not show the wear that some of the other dorms show. The rooms in New Res are smaller than those in Centennial but still fairly good sized. Each room has its own restroom that must be maintained by the residents. New Res, like Centennial, had a flooding issue in the 2006-2007 school year, but it was due to a broken pipe in one of the walls.

Decker Hall
Decker Hall is set up similarly to Cromwell, the freshman dorm it is next to. Decker has the smallest rooms of any of the sophomore dorms, but the rooms are fairly nice. Decker functions on the suite system. Two rooms are connected by a shared bathroom that must be maintained by the residents. Decker Hall, unlike Centennial and New Res, has elevators!

Allen, Brewster, and Ely Halls
All three of these halls are connected. They are commonly referred to as ABE. While each room in ABE is totally unique, they're all nice. The third floor rooms are, however, under the incline of the roof. Allen Hall boasts a gorgeous piano lounge. ABE is coed by room.

Norsworthy Hall
Norsworthy is a very small residence hall. It is three stories and houses about 150 students. Norsworthy is coed by room and has restrooms on each floor maintained by the college cleaning staff. There is also a main lounge.

I hope this guide will help you to decide where you would like to live during your sophomore year. I highly suggest you attempt to visit the various residence halls prior to signing up for a room to get a better feel of the atmosphere of each of them. While you may not get your first choice, I doubt you will be disappointed by the sophomore dorms.

Sorry, my mistake. Sophomores have a choice of all five halls. Extra rooms are then given to upperclassmen which means that Centennial and Norsworthy often have upperclassmen. The other three are usually only sophomores.
