Best Seafood: Siamone's Thai Pub and Restaurant
I was quite tempted to give Siamone's the "Best Beer" award, as they carry a variety of brews from local crafters, Hoppin' Frog (you have to try B.O.R.I.S. the Crusher Oatmeal-Imperial Stout, by the way). Instead, however, Siamone's gets the Best seafood award. I'm really picky when it comes to fish and seafood, but the fish curry is absolutely phenomenal. I suggest fish in the Emerald Curry.
Best Coconut Soup: Pad Thai
If there's one thing I love as much as I love curry, it's coconut soup. Located in Fairlawn, Pad Thai takes the cake for this delicious soupy concoction. I would also deem it "Best Date Restaurant." Oddly, I prefer the location in Stow-not listed on their website, and named "Thai Gourmet." The menus are identical, which leaves me confused but pleased. I've never found Avocado Curry anywhere else.
Best New Thai Restaurant: Taste of Bangkok
This smaller joint just opened up on Exchange, just a shake away from the new stadium constructed on the campus of the University of Akron. I managed to make my way over a few weeks ago to test the waters. I didn't taste a thing I didn't love. The coconut soup here was also fantastic. I tried the fresh spring rolls: fantastic. The panang curry was also wonderful. Everything was very reasonably priced, and I'm excited to try the sushi.
Best Noodles: Cilantro Thai and Sushi Restaurant
I'm a girl who loves her Pad Thai. Noodles and peanut-y goodness is certainly on the menu at Cilantro-a new(er) restaurant in the heart of Downtown Akron. I would also consider this restaurant the trendiest of the four. I've had one or two experiences with slow service, friends who have experienced the same. Their spicy fried noodles practically put my best friend into a craving frenzy, however. I would say that merits it worth a try.
I certainly hope you visit one of these restaurants, regardless of whether or not you have tried Thai food before. If you're a beginner, the noodles are a great place to start. If you like things a bit spicier, however, you really can't go wrong with curry. As always, enjoy!
