A Guide to the Top 10 Episodes of Man Vs. Wild

Super Duper

Man vs. Wild is a show about a man named Bear Grylls (seems fitting) setting off for various expeditions with the idea of being a stranded tourist. Bear lives off the environment at all costs. He consumes the animals around him, he creates his own home from branches and hide, and basically shows us the ways to survive if we were placed in his situation. He takes us along on the journey by narrating the story himself, and gives us tips on the survival process that goes into making it out of the given location alive.

I find these 10 episodes to stand out as being the best among the series.

The African Savannah

Season 1, Episode 7

Bear Grylls sets off on an adventure to the African Savannah. Bear parachutes himself into the heart of the African Savannah, then is basically left with nothing but the clothes on his back. He shows us how the trip to the African Savannah can turn ugly in a second as he encounters leopards, lions, and rhinos! The main location is the heart of Kenya, and he gives us various tips on survival. He shows us how to navigate our way back to civilization by observing the stars. He also shows us the ways to find the leftovers of a kill. It takes a nasty turn as he shows us how to extract water from an elephant's feces!

The Desert Island

Season 1, Episode 9

In this episode, Bear parachutes himself into the waters near a desert island! He shows us the ways to avoid the various animals you will come across, such as poisonous jellyfish and other deadly marine species. He then proceeds to show us how to use a spear to kill fishes! He also uses a fairly simple way of collecting rainwater - since it is the only source of potable water. He shows us how to build homes from branches and leaves as well. This is a very informative alternative to the movie Castaway.

The Moab Desert

Season 1, Episode 2

In this episode, Bear takes us through the Moab Desert in Utah, one of the deadliest locations in the world. He is dropped into the desert with just a few tools - a bottle of water, flint and a knife. He shows us the ways of returning back to civilization as he dodges rattlesnakes, escapes quicksand and deadly mosquitoes - all while searching for food and a place to sleep.

The Alaskan Mountain Range

Season 1, Episode 4

Similar to the Moab Desert, Bear is only armed with a bottle of water, a knife and a flint. He shows us his quest back to civilization as he tries to conquer mountains, glaciers, deadly bears, and survives with a boat across icy waters. In these frigid temperatures, he tries to make it out alive!

Sierra Nevada

Season 1, Episode 6

In this episode, Bear is parachuted in the heart of the Sierra Nevada, which is notoriously a deadly location. He must escape from 3 different phases of the Sierra Nevada - the alpine, woodlands, and chaparral. Bear goes on a quest through deadly cliffs, upper-class whitewater rapids and other deadly obstacles. He utilizes ancient Native American techniques of survival to make it out alive. This episode features Bear Grylls calming wild horses and using them as a medium of transportation.

Everglades

Season 2, Episode 1

The Everglades - known notoriously for their high concentration of alligators - is much more deadly than most think. It features many deadly snakes, bears, and other vicious animals. Even the grass is deadly in the Everglades, as it is extremely sharp. He tries to escape the deadly locale; all while trying to quench his thirst and subdue his hunger.

Iceland

Season 2, Episode 2

It doesn't take a genius to realize that Iceland has some of the worst climates in the world! Bear tries to fight frostbite and deadly blizzards as he tries to escape from one of the most frigid locations known to man. He is forced to eat sheep eyes and other unusual things just to subdue his hunger. Bear shows us the ways to make a snow cave in this episode.

Mexico

Season 2, Episode 3

To most of us, Mexico seems to be the haven for spring break - but that just scratches the surface. There is a deadly side to the southern neighbor of the United States. The Copper Canyon is one of those places. Not only is it deeper and larger than the Grand Canyon, but it is also much more dangerous. Starvation and dehydration are key killers in these canyons. This episode features Bear showing us how to make a compass from scratch and climb steep cliffs. He even shows us how to fish without a pole or line!

Scotland

Season 2, Episode 6

I find this one interesting since it is very different from the rest of the episodes. I was questioning how deadly Scotland can really be before I watched this episode! It turns out that Scotland can be very deadly. Scotland's Cairngorm National Park is this location. It is extremely deadly as it kills about 30 people every year! There is a threat of avalanches at every corner and Bear shows us the ways to navigate our ways out of the deadly park. This episode features Bear filtering dirty water with moss!

Kimberly, Australia

Season 2, Episode 4

Welcome to the Australian Outback! Bear must fight deadly heat, venomous snakes, and cyclones to survive this deadly locale. He gives us tips to survive sunstrokes and explains why drinking your own urine is essential to survival! This is the strangest episodes since it even features Bear eating a large spider to survive.

I find that these are the 10 best episodes in the Man vs. Wild series. Not only is this series informative, but it's extremely entertaining!
