A Guide to Unique Crafts and All Things Handmade

Always looking for new ideas and ways to make things? Do you like the look of handmade art? Here are some crafty tips to get you going.

If you like tangible guides to look at and keep, you should invest in magazines such as "Do It Yourself" and "100 Decorating Ideas Under $100". These quarterly publications offer great advice, projects, and guides that will help you create your own unique look whether for your house, office, or special occasions. Those two magazines and also "Better Homes and Gardens" also offer additional information on home techniques such as baking and gardening. They also have websites that offer some of the ideas that are published in their magazine subscriptions. You can also sign up to receive their free newsletters via email which offer great recipes and project suggestions. These magazine subscriptions also offer seasonal editions. I have recently purchased one of the Christmas/holiday editions and I decorated my house using a lot of project ideas and patterns from that magazine.

If you want to purchase things handmade and one of a kind, browse websites such as Etsy and Little Odd Forest.

Etsy.com allows people to purchase and sell crafts and is a great way to get your work known. I personally have purchased several "one of a kind" items on there, and all which have received numerous compliments from people who have seen them. LittleOddForest.com offers handmade bags, accessories, home décor, and clothing for purchase. Although the items sell for a little bit on the pricey end, their look is very distinct and a portion of their proceeds go to help the WWF and jobless or poverty-stricken women.

Of course, obvious websites such as eBay is also a great marketplace to obtain and market crafts, but sometimes, things can be way overpriced or the description can be a bit misleading. Based on my personal experience, I have found more sellers to be more compliant and willing to negotiate and make custom orders on Etsy than on eBay.

These are some basic suggestions. Of course visiting your local library or simply browsing online can also help you find handmade goods and assist you in garnering more ideas and places to make your work known.
