The central square of Ayia Napa is usually packed with crowds of people on Friday and Saturday evenings during the high season months of June, July and August. I remember, visiting this place on a Saturday. I tried, unsuccessfully, to move through the crowd to get to the other end of the square. The area was too crowded to move. This can happen in high season.
In the central square of Ayia Napa there are, also, shops, restaurants, bars and nightclubs. This part of Ayia Napa is the main area where everyone meets for a night out.
Ayia Napa is situated in Southern Cyprus and has the best beach known as Nissi Beach. This beach is usually packed during the months of June, July and August with young people. The best time to sit on Nissi Beach would be earlier in the year in April and May when the weather is beginning to get warmer and it is usually peaceful and less crowded. It is, also, peaceful to visit the beach in October when the summer season comes to an end. Having a picnic with friends or family during the day on this beautiful white sandy beach during this time is a great way to enjoy the atmosphere of Nissi Beach.
What to See and do in Ayia Napa
Here are a few things to do if you are thinking of visiting Ayia Napa.
Ayia Napa Water Park - There is a water park in Ayia Napa that is very popular for many holiday makers that visit Cyprus each year. This water park is one of the largest in Cyprus.
The Black Pearl Trip - This is a pirate ship just like the one in the film The Pirates of the Caribbean. The ship takes you out on a cruise giving lots of entertainment along the way. It is mainly a cruise for families with children, but anyone that is interested can tag along. The entertainment is fun with a full pirate show, dressing up as pirates for everybody, a canon show, lots of food included, a swim stop in the Mediterranean sea and a treasure hunt for the children. The boat departs from Ayia Napa Harbor at 11 am and returns 3.30 pm. This is a fun day out. Go to the Black Pearl website for more information.
Bungee Jumping - Opposite Nissi Beach there is a place where you can go bungee jumping. It is done in the most unique spot over the waters of Nissi Beach. Once you are in the air, you will drop down towards the sea where only your hands will dip into the water. It costs 75 euros per person to do this. A fun and exciting bit of entertainment if you have the guts to do it!
Cypriot Folk Dancers - Every Sunday afternoon in Ayia Napa square next to the Monastery from April to October everyone will have the chance to see Cypriot folk dancing with singing and band music. The square becomes a great atmosphere on Sundays with this folk dancing music to enjoy. An interesting way to spend a Sunday afternoon.
The Monastery of Ayia Napa - Visit this beautiful historic monastery. According to the Wikipedia Free Encyclopedia the monastery was built in 1500. A fascinating and interesting monastery to visit that is situated near the central square of Ayia Napa.
Ayia Napa Festival - This festival takes place in Ayia Napa during the last week of September every year. The festival first began in September 1985 according to the Wikipedia Free Encyclopedia. There is lots of entertainment, stalls, folk dancing and music celebrating this tradition. The festival takes place in the Sepheris Square Monastery.
Ayia Napa is a great place for a holiday if you love a lively city with lots to do. There is excitement here for everyone that wants to enjoy the hot sun, sea and sand along with some great nights out.
