A Guide to Where to Buy Portable Electric Heaters Online

Jerry Walch
There are plethora of online shopping portals that offer consumers in search of portable electric heaters great buys. Major shopping portals like Home Depot, Lowes, Sears, and Best Buy not only offer the consumer a great selection of different style heaters, but they offer the buyer the option of buying online and then picking their purchases up at a local retail outlet. Making your purchases online and then picking them up at a local outlet allows you to save the shipping and handling cost. There is another major advantage to buying online and then picking it up at a local outlet, if something goes wrong with the heater during its warranty period, it can be returned to the same store instead of having to be shipped back to the online e-tailer. Of course, shopping portals like compactappliance.com, todaysconcept.com, and air-n-water.com do offer free shipping as long as your order meets the minimum dollar amount.

Almost all of these e-tailers offer portable electric heaters costing less than thirty dollars to several hundred dollars. The price depends on a number of factors the heat output in Watts and the type of heater (straight convection, forced air convection, radiant, quartz, infrared, oiled-filled, water filled, etc). That is the first decision that the purchaser has to make-what size and type of portable electric heater best meets his/her needs. The heat output that you will need depends on the size of the room you want to heat. A good rule of thumb is to figure 10-Watts per square foot of room area i.e. a 10 X 14 foot room has an area of 140 square feet and would require a heater with a minimum output of 1400-Watts.

All of these shopping portals offer secure online purchasing and all are highly rated by the online BBB (Better Business Bureau) and accept payment by major credit cards and for those who do not like to give out their credit card information online, most of these sites allow you to print out your order form and mail in a check or money order to pay for your purchases.

All of these sites offer the standard manufacturer's guarantee (usually ninety days) but many also offer you the option to purchase an extended warranty for a few dollars more. What you need to consider before purchasing the extended warranty is what it will cost you to ship the heater back to be serviced. If you are purchasing low-end heaters, the cost of shipping the unit back for service might very well cost you more than it would cost you to replace the heater with a new one. Of course, if you can return the unit to a local outlet for servicing, then the extended warranty is probably a good deal.
