A vacuum cleaner or any kind of practical gift.

Do not give you wife or girlfriend any kind of gift that hints to house cleaning or cooking at least not without giving her something romantic and personal as well. Many women especially if you are just dating will take offense to only getting something practical. If you do end up giving something practical be sure to buy something personal like perfume, book or jewelry.

Underwear.

If you decide to give you loved one underwear make sure you know her exact size and style. Nothing is more inappropriate then giving underwear either too big or small, or too sexy or boring. Buying underwear leaves you with a very thin line to please. If you do decide to go for underwear get something that is in between boring and sexy.

A Ring.

If you are planning to give your girlfriend a ring for Christmas then be prepared to also give an explanation. Most women will take it as a sign that you either is asking her to get married or that you are going too soon. While you might have thought this is just a nice ring and gift, woman will take a ring to mean more than just a piece of jewelry.

A Pet.

While giving your loved one a puppy seems like a really sweet idea, taking care of a dog especially is a huge responsibility that not every woman wants to take on. So unless she has talked about getting a pet for a long time, giving an animal is a bad idea.

Gift cards.

A gift card can seem like a great idea, since your loved one can just pick and choose what ever she wants but a gift card is very impersonal and a woman would feel like you put no thought behind your Christmas gift.
