A Guide to New York City Haunted Houses, Blood Manor and Nightmare
Get Ready for the Scare of Your Life!
But if you're a fan of the macabre and enjoy a good scare every now and then, you should know that the Big Apple also has some offerings that are right up your alley -- haunted house attractions designed to scare you like you've never been scared before! Two of the most terrifying of these are Blood Manor and Nightmare.
BLOOD MANOR
What It Is
Blood Manor is a haunted house attraction that offers over 5,000 square feet of scares and terror. Once you enter this thrillhouse, you're guided by foot from one room to the next. There are corridors, themed rooms and passageways, and all have one thing in common: They're designed to give you maximum scares for your buck. Each descent into horror typically lasts 20-25 minutes, and each group is usually comprised of six people.
Keep in mind that if your fear gets the better if you, you can cut the experience short and make a hasty exit; however, you will not be refunded the price of admission. Also, Blood Manor's edgy brand of horror is not suited for the wee ones. It's not recommended for children under 14 years of age. Pregnant women, people with heart or back problems and those who are prone to seizures are also advised to skip this event.
How to Find It
The Blood Manor haunted house attraction is located at 542 West 27th Street, between 10th and 11th Avenues. You can get there by subway or by car.
What Are Its Hours?
This event saves its thrills for after dark. It's only open nights, with the scares beginning at 7:30 pm. The house stays open as late as 2 am on Fridays and Saturdays.
What About Tickets?
Tickets may be purchased online, by phone or at the door. When purchased online and via phone, tickets are $25 plus a $3.50 handling fee, but the price rises to $30 when tickets are purchased at the door.
NIGHTMARE
What It Is
Nightmare is a haunted house attraction that is unlike any you've ever seen. It plays out as a unique horror story set in the Museum of Vampyric Artifacts. This museum featured artifacts related to some of the most bone-chilling vampires known to man. If you think a trip to the museum means a boring time spent gawking at displays, think again - on this dark journey, you'll find yourself running for your life, as the displays leap into action and give chase! If the idea of being pursued by a horde of bloodthirsty maniacs is your idea of a good time, this event is one that you won't want to miss! Each tour is typically comprised of 12-15 people.
This haunted house experience is one best suited for adults. No one under 7 will be admitted, and those 12 and under require the presence of a guardian. You can leave if it all becomes too much to handle, but no refunds will be given.
How To Find It
The Nightmare haunted house attraction is located at the NOHO Event Center, at 632 Broadway at Houston Street. Enter on Mercer.
What Are Its Hours?
Hours vary, but the Nightmare typically begins at 6 pm and winds up by 10 or 11 pm.
