A Halloween Haunted Maze Party for a Nine Year Old

Lori Piper
Halloween is around the corner. Are you ready to be scared? Are you ready to party? How about both? My soon to be nine year old niece wants to have a haunted house slumber party for her birthday this year and I am all for it.

We planned it out in one afternoon.

1) Invitations will be created and printed in the computer with her younger sister's help. I have the printer's ink and cardstock already. No money out of pocket.

2) A haunted maze will take place in the back yard made out of cardboard boxes picked up from behind various grocery and book stores. The cardboard will be constructed to a small S curved maze. Nothing extravagant as all parties are on a tight budget. So far the cost is practically nothing. Except for gas.

3) Tape and scissors to arrange the boxes as we see fit. That's in my craft room.

4) Grapes. Peeled and unpeeled. The peeled grapes will be brains. The unpeeled grapes can be eyeballs.

5) Spaghetti. Cooked spaghetti makes for great innards don't you think? Toss in a couple of tomatoes and the haunted house for nine years olds is shaping up to be a spooky time for all.

6) Buffalo wings. Pre eaten, of course, as the bones tossed in a bowl can be the skeletal remains of a rat.

7) A parent or another adult (me) will be the narrator through the maze (the five minute maze) about how the cats need to go through in order to escape the big dogs' camp on there way to the castle. Yes, a castle. After all this is a girls' party.

8) A kitty litter cake. Yes, a kitty litter cake. Perfect for Halloween!

9) A ghost story to tell and the movie Cats and Dogs to watch. See, this nine year old wants to dress up as a cat and have all her friends come dressed as cats as well. All one really needs is ears and a tail. Simple to make out of headbands and panty hose.

That will be the basics. More will be discussed and added I am sure. But this sounds like an exciting party for a nine year old girl. And it is what she wants.

Parties do not have to break the bank nor be the best of the best. Children are there to have fun and the more than can participate, the more the will relish in the fun. She is so excited, she wants August to hurry and turn to September. Come to think about it, I am in a hurry for September to turn to October myself. This sounds like a party I do not want to miss.

What about you? What ideas do you have in store for this Halloween?

What cute ideas Lori. I had a haunted yard for my kids when they were young. They had so much fun and still remember it to this day.

It does sound like a lot of fun! The only thing I would have been grossed out at as a kid is the pre-eaten buffalo wings, lol.
