It seems there's a new tablet coming out everyday and the latest contender is Toshiba's 'Thrive' tablet PC. With big name competitors like Microsoft and Apple stepping into the tablet game, it seems the question on everyone's mind seems to be is the Thrive better than the iPad2? This Thrive tablet review will go over the pros and cons of Toshiba's newest entry in the tablet arena.
Before I go into what's wrong about the tablet, I wanted to highlight what's right since I want to treat this review of thrive tablet with equality. While it is thicker, it seems it packs more hardware based features than some of the other tablets I've used.
It sports full sized and mini USB ports and also has full sized SD slots for your flash memory needs. The Thrive seems to be ideal if you're a digital photographer in that respect. One major plus for me was the support for Android, because I don't care for iOS much myself. Although Android offers less apps than Apple's counterpart, it is a growing and widely supported platform. Really, it all boils down to user preference.
As I mentioned earlier I wanted to give this Thrive tablet review and equal look, so here comes the cons. It is thicker, and weighs a little more than the iPad2. Not to say this is a bad thing since it makes up for it in features and customization. This wasn't a deal breaker for me but something to consider is the first models will not support cellular connectivity, only WiFi.
The interface flows smoothly and customizing the color of the tablet is easy as the back snaps off. I went from a black tablet to a blue one in a matter of moments. The back of the tablet has a short of rubber grip so it sits firmly in your hand. One nice thing is you can plug a monitor into it since Toshiba was considerate enough to include HDMI support. Having two cameras on the device is nice although they vary in megapixels.
Overall, I would say that I'm very impressed with Android Honeycomb and overall I'd say for the price point this is a decent tablet. If you're expecting the iPad, go with your heart. However if you just want a good Android tablet then heed the advice of my Thrive tablet review and pick this up.
