A Happy Ending

Frank
One day when my daughter was young enough to be in a high chair my wife thought making up some Play- Doh to entertain her would be a good thing. She did just that and a good time was had by all, for a while. She rolled it, flattened it, made stick men and flowers, life was good!

Upon my arrival home from work the little woman was all in a dither!

I asked, what was going on and she pointed at the little darling that had decided to pack her nostrils full of Play-Doh, just because.

Not wanting to upstage her pediatric training as an LPN, I approached the problem with the old common sense approach. Of course the little darling was freaking out at this time which took a minute to defuse. The look of near panic was on her face and any on mine would have been the catalyst to an already volatile situation.

As calm as I could, I asked the little sweetie to take a real deep breath, which she did. After that practice run or two, I told her to do it again, but real big. She took it as the challenge presented and sucked in enough air to fill a blimp.

At the peak of her infusion of air, I clamped my hand over her mouth and waited, waited some more then, Voila! it started to happen.

She strained for a moment trying to force the air within out any orifice that would show the least resistance. Luckily it was the nose!

Again she strained and just like magic this pencil sized, three inch section of Play-Doh shot out of her nostril.

Sweet! We were so excited and relieved. We let that rest for a while and let her calm down. With that task completed, we had one more to go!

Once again I challenged her to take another deep breath. This time I covered her mouth and the free nostril and the same thing happened for the second time within seconds.

They were both out, happy days! We can breathe again and no one is mad, in fact, very happy.

We all had a good laugh about it afterwards but it was starting to get to the panic stage.

I'm sure that she learned a valuable lesson that afternoon because it never happened again.

In the end, I didn't want a parade, although a lap around the house on the shoulders would have been nice!

Like most parents, I knew little about raising a child, but some things just make sense to me.

We're all very fortunate to have survived each other.

Another funny article. I can picture the play dough protruding out of the nose and your wife's panic. Smart solution.
