A New Health Care Plan

There has been much debate around the country as to whether or not we should fix or health care system in our country. Some people are happy with the way it is, and others are desperately looking for a change. President Obama wants a change, and he is doing everything he can to improve it in the best way he sees fit. What do you think about health care reform for America?

I have some ideas. I am sure that you do too. My main view on this is that there has to be a change in our medical care system. I believe in this strongly because I am deeply affected every day because of our health care system. Supposedly I am one of the lucky ones that have really great health insurance. However, I spend over $150 a month for my medications alone. Plus, my average medical bills a year are so costly that sometimes I actually have to forgo medical procedures because I cannot deal with the costs of having them done.

I can only imagine those people who do not have any insurance at all. So my idea of a new health plan is that everyone has health care. No one is turned away. Plus, everyone gets the medicine they need at super low cost. I think the cost of medicine is a big deal. One of my medications costs $185 a month without insurance. I need this medicine to keep myself alive. What would happen if I did not have insurance?

Can we afford as a nation to watch people all around us die because they cannot afford medical care and vital medicines? I believe the answer is no. We should all have medical care, and it should be good medical care. I want our nation to take the time to solve this problem, and get it right.

My plan for those that can afford health care today is that we all get taxed on it. It should be taxed just like everything else is. No one gets better treatment than anyone else, and no one gets less treatment. I remember having friends when I was younger that had Medicaid, and they were treated differently when seeing a doctor. It was not right to me. Just because someone has better insurance does not mean they deserve better care.

I would like to see the policy of "pre-existing conditions" go out the window especially in today's economy. There should be no penalty in having a pre-existing health condition. People are losing their jobs because of no fault of their own. Why should they have to lay out lots of money for alternatives like COBRA in order to have health insurance or not to get hit with denial of health coverage because of pre-existing health conditions for when they finally do have a job that has health insurance? I never understood that concept either. It does not make any sense for people to have to pay extreme amounts of money to keep health insurance when they have just lost their jobs. Why be penalized for something that should be free to everyone?

That is the bottom line to me. Everyone should have health insurance. People should not be dying because they have no health insurance. No one should be going broke because they cannot pay their medical bills. That is what is happening right now. Do you know that most people, who have bad credit, have bad credit due to medical bills? It is true. I am close with someone who runs credit checks on people every day, and that is what comes up on credit checks the most. Our economy was helped in failing due to medical costs. If you want our economy to be strengthened, then we need health care reform.

We the American people cannot keep up with the cost of medical costs. There has to be a change. On a personal note, I know an elderly lady who had to make a choice between her heart medication and putting food on the table. What kind of decision is that? America is known as being a great land. We need to protect our own. That is why we need a change in our health care. We need reform today.
