I was 11 years old at the time of this event. I was helping my mom make mash potatoes and matzo ball soup. My mom was seasoning the brisket. I happened to look out the kitchen window and I saw two girls riding horses in our complex. Now, it must be understood that we didn't live on a farm. Therefore, horse riding wasn't permitted in the complex. I was surprised by seeing the horses outside the house. I was shocked to see horses outside the kitchen window. I took a deep breath and said to my mom, "Mom, a horse just went by the window."
My mom didn't turn from the brisket. She acted like she didn't hear me. Therefore, I repeated what I had said before.
" Mom, I horse went by the window."
She ignored me again and continued working on the brisket. Therefore, I repeated once more that a horse had just passed by the window. My mom, clearly annoyed with me for bothering her while she was preparing for a Seder, practically yelled at me as she went to the door.
"Okay, Rachel, I will prove that that there isn't a horse outside our house."
As she went to open the front door, I said a little prayer that the horse was still outside the house. If it wasn't there then, I was going to get a stern lecture about the right and wrong time to be creative. Luckily, my mom saw the horse.
"Rachel, there is a horse outside our house."
Then, she told the rider that she couldn't ride her horse here. The rider and the horse left. We finished up preparing for our Passover Seder. The meal was delicious and everyone enjoyed it. I might have forgotten some of what happened that night at the Seder; however, I have never forgotten that my 11th year was the year that a horse came to our Passover Seder. source: none
