International business travel may never be completely pain-free. However, there are many things you can do to reduce the pain involved in international business travel. Plan ahead and prepare in advance for international travel. Listen to advice from international contacts and even ask them for their assistance. A business traveler should take precautions. Arrive early, take your time and relax are keys to enjoyable international travel.

Passports

Most importers and exporters will need to travel international and will probably need a passport. The best thing to do is get a passport right away and keep it updated just in case travel is needed. Remember a passport, a passport card, enhanced driver's license, or trusted traveler program card are required by U.S. citizens returning home from Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean or Bermuda, by land or sea. Traveling anywhere else, it would be best to have a passport.

Book in Advance

Travel discounts are available for those who book in advance over the web. Priceline.com, Expedia.com and Orbitz.com are great ways to book trips and save money. Hotels and airline websites also add discounts and convenience to international travel.

International contacts can help price shop and give first-hand recommendations on accommodations.

Arrive Early

You can expect to be searched as a security precaution while traveling. You can also expect delays. It is wise to familiarize yourself with regulations for travel both domestically and abroad. If you know there may be delays going through security or lines, you can relieve yourself of stress by arriving to your departure location early. It is best to arrive early and be processed than having the stress of running late. Remember most airports offer Wi-Fi connections so time can be productive while waiting flights.

International Contacts

International contacts can be used for travel recommendations and for help booking travel plans. They can also be used for airport pickup. International contacts can help with translations and other services as well.
