A Humorous Story About My Summer Day Camp Adventure

Guy Siverson
Day Camp.

It's a fun time. No really it is. You have food, stories, hikes and who knows what else might be waiting to greet you down the timeline of the day.

But it can also be the makings of a humorous story about life events as they occur.

This particular summer day camp adventure involves an adult (that's me), a funny canoe that didn't seem too humorous at the time, and...well, let me continue.

It was shortly after lunch and I was pleasantly plump and feeling happy. I started out on a walk around the lake with my wife when it happened. Yes, it happened.

Right there in front of me lay a green pile of wood with a funny "U" shape to its design. I knew instantly what it was, especially with the body of water that was right beside it. It was a canoe, and I had an idea.

For the record, my ideas are not always the ones that should be followed.

Anyway, I closely examined the canoe, which seemed to be in relatively good shape even though I am far more talented within the scope of writing than I will ever be as a carpenter. Nonetheless, I righted the canoe and encouraged its way out into the water.

My wife wasn't any to sure, no one else seemed much interested in this canoe of solace, but then most others were kids who had better things to do. I let the canoe sit there for a few moments; no water was entering so I decided it was safe to proceed.

One foot, then two my mission being to float the lake with my bride.

That never happened.

Why?

Well, you know the part where you go to sit down with these floating joys? When I went to place my backside on the seat I suddenly found myself squarely within the lake, clothes and all.

See, this funny canoe did have a hole that neither of us could see. Thus my summer day camp adventure left me soaked in disbelief.

Given that it was early June air-drying was not on the top of options. That's why we headed home for a change to return for more fun adventures later that day.

What can you learn from a humorous story about canoe like this? Nothing. Less, of course, it was to ask people before using equipment as you never know what the end result might be.
