I'm here to tell anyone who thinks that way, that just is not true. Imagine yourself with a great job, and one day you have an accident and all of a sudden, you are on your back, and there is absolutely nothing you can do any longer to help anyone, not even yourself.
In fact, you now need the help of someone else. Now Imagine that you have great faith in the system because you have worked hard all of your life, and you have paid more than your fair share into the system so that there is help there when you need.
Now Imagine all your faith shattered when the system decides you are not worth helping in any way, and to be sure they don't have to help you, they lie, cheat, and do everything they can so that you cannot touch one penny of the money that actually belongs to you, which was supposed to be available if you ever needed it.
If all that is not bad enough, as you try to do what you can to take care of your family, and need to ask others for help, you are looked upon and treated like some scummy criminal that should even be allowed to live in this society.
This all sounds like a very sad story from someone's imagination, doesn't it? Unfortunately, this is a true story and shows what little our Government will do to help those who have busted their bottoms all their life and paid huge sums into the system. Not only will they lie to keep from helping a person, they have a staff that, for the most part, has absolutely no compassion at all!
If you try asking a business for help in anyway, you get the same thing, no compassion at all. If there is no money for the business in what you are asking for, then they won't even talk to you. There may be a few out there with a compassionate heart in their bodies, but they are rare and hard to find. Even if you are just trying to sell an item you made to help feed you family, and want to place a flyer on a store window, many merchants will not let you.
I had a merchant tell me they do not support anything, or anyone that wants to place a flyer selling something on their shop door. My answer to that is, okay, sorry to bother you, and not too worry, I will not buy my supplies from your store either! Now that may sound harsh, but what he said to me was just as harsh, and who does he think is supporting his store? It will no longer be my money!
Another example of lack of compassion is merchants who have scraps of a product they sell, but will not help someone who can use those scraps, (which in many cases go in the trash), by letting them have them, because they want the sale on full items, and would rather throw the scraps in the trash, than to help someone in need, because they may loose a sale. Well guess what? They are going to loose the sale anyway if the person has no money to begin with. Wouldn't it be better to have a little compassion and help another human, than to turn away and possibly leave someone in a dying situation?
There are so many people in this Country who are in dire straights, and in great need, but no one will lift one little finger to help them, because there is nothing in it for them. Does there always have to be something in it for you to help another human? Have you ever been in need and no one would help?
Have you ever been in need and someone did reach out to help you? What made you feel better? Don't you think others deserve a helping hand once in awhile? I am not referring to people who sit on their butts watching TV all day. I am talking about those who do everything in their power to survive in this world, with as little help as possible. Everyone needs help sometime, even if it is just a loan.
We all need to open our eyes, and our hearts, and look around and see who is right in front of our faces that need our help, and reach out to them in any way we can and help them. It don't matter how poor you may be yourself, there is always someone poorer than you, that you have the power to help.
If only half of us would get up off our bottoms and reach out to another human and help them in some way, this Country would start to change, and maybe we could all be part of making our Country what it once was, a place where people love one another, reach out and help each other, and a place that more of us want to call our homeland. Right now I am almost ashamed of what my Country has become. It is a Country of greed, hate, selfishness, and that is only a few problems in our Country today.
So the next time you hear of someone in need of something you can be of help with, go a be a help, not another person with no compassion that turns their nose up at the person who is too ill, or disabled to help themselves. You never know, tomorrow YOU may be that person that no one wants to reach out to.

Post a CommentI got to this site cause I wonder whats wrong with me. I do have no compassion. I bust my ass and when Ive needed help no one is around. I take care of my fiance but give nothing to anyone else. I feel I am responsible for myself. It seems to me we live in such a crooked society. Every time I turn around someone is nickel and diming me. Im so tired of being screwed. I feel like something is wrong with me because I have no compassion for anyone but I've never been helped out at all. I just get screwed over by the irs of anything I have left over. How can I be expected to have compassion. Look how our government treats us when we bust our ass. I am on a payment plan with the irs. I get the bill on the 12th of the month and it is due on the 14th. They dont value my time. It takes me 20 minutes on the phone to complain and they just don't believe me anyway. so I get charged a late fee every month. How do you expect me to have any compassion. I should just declare

I totally agree. This is one of the reasons I'm creating my business idea called My First Name. To help people.
I agree with you that there is a lack of compassion. I don't understand how anyone can not be saddened when they pass by a homeless person, a person in need, a person in pain and etc. Yet I see so many people who are hardened inside and some who are selfish. I would also like to add that I think people should remember to treat others with dignity. People in need often have their dignity stripped away from them. I believe everyone is equal. Don't look down on anyone. People might be surprised what eye contact, honest kind words and a hug can do for a person. Many homeless people have said that people don't treat them like they are a person. How sad is that! Try to look at every person through Gods' eyes.
I'm sorry your experience has given you this impression. I have often recieved help from compassionate neighbors and strangers when I needed it. I have also had recourse to "the system" for certain times in my life, and had it work like it should. Just another viewpoint.
The American people donate more time, money, and items to charity than any other western nation; they are head and shoulders above Europe in terms of charity. I don't see how any qualitative or quantitative look at the U.S. could result in the hypothesis that they are not "compassionate".
