I spoke with people here in Texas, as well as a few in California, to find out what lazy habits or lack of common courtesy aggravates them the most. I found that we shared many of the same grievances and occasional guilt. These are not major problems, nor telling world issues. They are just some behaviors that really bug us on a day to day basis.
Lazy or Lack of Common Courtesy:
Let's start with the grocery store. I had 2 complaints mentioned more than once in regards to lazy behavior at the grocery store.
When someone puts something in their grocery cart and decides they do not want that item, you would hope they would put the item back where they originally got it. Instead, they often put the item on the shelf nearest to them. This is why you find a half-gallon of milk sitting in the detergent aisle.
How many of you, when you are done unloading your grocery cart, actually put the cart in the provided cart return area? Do you walk it back up to the store, or do you simply leave it in a parking spot for the next person to deal with? This is how cars get dinged.
My guess is that the people who don't return grocery carts are the same people who drive around a parking lot for 10 minutes just to find a parking spot 30 feet closer to the door.
Lazy or Lack of Common Courtesy:
Are you one of the lazy, discourteous members of society who can't be bothered with putting your trash in a trash can? I have watched people who were 10-15 feet from a trash can, simply leave their garbage where they had just been sitting and walk away. These tools probably think it is fine to stomp out their cigarettes and leave the butt on the ground too.
Another popular complaint is those lazy souls who use the public restrooms and then don't have the common courtesy to flush! Really, who does that? Is it so hard to flush the toilet you just used? I think not.
Lazy or Lack of Common Courtesy:
The last 2 complaints are those that strike close to home for me and many others.
How does it make you feel when you notice that someone else's dog has left you a big pile of poop in your yard? Yeah, it irritates me too. If you are walking your dog and they must poop in my yard, please have the courtesy to pick it up. I have a big dog, and I may know where you live to return the favor.
When you are using someone else's pool, are you too lazy to get out and go to the actual bathroom to relieve your bladder? If so, you may want to read my article, "Please Don't Pee in my Swimming Pool".www.associatedcontent.com/article/1727368/please_dont_pee_in_my_swimming_pool.html
If you noticed yourself in any of these examples, you can laugh it off, or maybe consider changing your behavior just a bit. I admit I have been guilty of a couple, but I won't say which ones. Let's all vow to be a little less lazy as a society and show each other a little common courtesy for a change. Take the challenge!

Post a CommentI like this. A lot of things on this list are pet peeves for me. Good job...and to those who use public toliets and don't flush...you're gross. I can see if the handle was broke, but 9 times out of 10 it is not. So don't be a lush...flush. Thanks.
Well done, teammate!
Thanks for not peeing in my pool Brian, now I don't have to pee in your bath tub!lol
Great topic and I have been guilty of a couple myself...but I promise I never peed in your pool. Seriously though every one can use a lesson in manners. Great article.
So true, common courtesy is at its worst. How difficult is it to flush the toilet?? It's the type of thing that should be a natural action... I doubt they leave their toilet unlfushed at home (well, I'd hope not), so what's stopping them from doing the same in public places?
Common courtesty is degrading in society. My town is now flooded with tourists for the summer and the rudeness is astonishing sometimes.
UGH! I know. Good topic!
It laziness and rudeness. And don't get me started on the dog poop!!!
How true that you cannot change what you do not acknowledge as something needing change. And yes, it's both: society is both lazy and discourteous to each other, both bringing society down.
Cigarette butts - they are not biodegradable!! They sit on the ground, at intersections, in my yard (left by workers last August) for years and years! Your car has an ash tray I'm almost positive - use it!
