A Letter to My Daughter's LIstening Ears

You seem to have run away today. Lizzy says it is because you did not want to be washed yesterday. I understand that sometimes you liked to escape the bath with some remaining dirt. As a mother, it is my duty to make you stay clean. If you were not clean you could not to your job as "listening ears" as well. If this is why you have run away please return to us.

Without you here with us, Lizzy's "running feet" have gone out of control. They are running up and down the hallway knocking things down with every thump. Lizzy says she can not control them with her listening ears. Her room has become a disaster, toys have been thrown everywhere. Perhaps she was looking for you. Lizzy even ran out to the street. You can see how dangerous this is. You are the glue that keeps her whole body in check. Without a good pair of listening ears she is reckless.

Lizzy and I are not the only ones that would like to see you back. Her teachers have complained. It seems she has left you here for a few days now. If she does not bring her listening ears to school then she must sit in the corner and play with her friends. Did you choose to hide because she had been to forgetting to bring you to school? I know she has a great time with you at school. Then she can play and the teacher will even pick her to do special jobs.

I have taken to writing you this letter hoping that you will come back to us soon. Our whole family is in chaos without you. We all hope for a safe and happy return. If you could hurry back as soon as possible I would be very grateful.
