A Liberal's Slant on the GOP Challenge to Russ Feingold of Wisconsin- Second Article

Ron Johnson, a businessman from Oshkosh, announced at the Italian American Center in Milwaukee that he is running for the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate. He joins three other previously announced candidates, Richard Leinenkugel, Terrance Wall, and David Westlake.

Johnson is another multimillionaire Tea Party candidate seeking the nomination. However, unlike his opponents he admits to paying taxes. He owns Pacur Inc. (pronounced packer) which is a plastics and polyester packaging company. Although he says America is not treating the entrepreneur fairly he has made a bundle at his company and plans on investing at least ten million dollars in his own campaign. Democrats cannot complain too loudly about that since Senator Kohl, our resident second richest man in the senate, invests millions of his own money in his own campaigns.

Ron Johnson has taken few public stands on issues. He has stated that he favors repeal of the healthcare reform act but does not say what should be done in its place. However, as a millionaire he does boast that this country has the finest healthcare system in the world. Secondly, he wants to reduce the deficit. He will do this by budget cuts but has made no mention of what specific cuts he would favor.

Johnson does the use the term"citizen- legislator" quite often in his few interviews and press release. He states that Sen. Feingold is not a "citizen legislator" and should retire. One has to wonder if Johnson will bring up some kind of citizenship charge against Feingold.

According to his web page, Johnson, "worked full-time during most of his college career and paid 100% of his college expenses. Because of his work ethic." This is a very good statement of understanding as to where he will be on the subject of financing higher education. He continues to demonstrate his work ethic by telling us he shoveled snow off of walks and even baled hay when he was young. Nothing on his web page gives any information on policy, or where he might stand on important national and international issues.

He has embraced the Tea Party movement fully and spoke at several rallies. He says he wants to move the Wisconsin Republican party toward the Tea Party but hopes to generate support from across the board. He has also denied being the founder of the Oshkosh Tea Party.

Mark Belling a far right radio talking head has applauded the entrance of Ron Johnson to race on his talk show, Wednesday, May, 12. Saying that Johnson is the one person capable of unseating Sen. Feingold. Obviously Johnson has the far right credentials. Now with him and our other Tea Party supporters battling for the nomination, it will be interesting to see which one the Tea Part chooses.
