A New Liposuction Procedure Using Lasers

Liposuction is a cosmetic procedure that removes fat deposits from up under the skin. Many Americans do this procedure, as an easy way to take off unwanted fat and to help even out cellulite areas. Traditional liposuction utilized a cannula, or suction probe, to extract the fat from the patient's body. This would cause a good amount of bruising and also would take a patient longer to heal. Today there is a new and less evasive way to have liposuction done and that is with the new laser liposuction.

Laser procedures have improved over decades and have been incorporated into modern day surgeries. This new technology has also improved the safety and efficiency of medical procedures done on a day-to-day basis. This new way of liposuction will cut down on healing time, as well as, bruising and stitches if any are needed at all.

Laser-assisted liposuction uses the use of lasers with the traditional liposuction procedures. It liquefies the fat deposits and then extracts them from the body. During this procedure the laser has the ability to be adjusted to the exact frequency needed to deliver the right amount of energy through the layers of the skin to reach the fat deposits targeted by the surgeon. It uses a heating or cold technique, depending on the area of fat cells, and then is infused with a solution of saline and anesthetic. This procedure is also known to produce the least risk of tissue damage. Another benefit to the laser liposuction is the fact that it can also help tighten up skin following the liposuction procedure. This will appeal to patients who have loose or inelastic skin. Patients who have this procedure done are able to go home and relax the same day. They are also able to return to their usual activities within a day or two unlike the old liposuction procedure that took about two weeks or more to recover.

Although this new laser technology in liposuction has many advantages keep in mind that this is a relatively new procedure within the cosmetic field. Because this is still a new advancement it is still in the experimental stage. It has also not been determined what the long-term effects of laser exposure can do. If you are thinking of getting liposuction using this new procedure, then it's best to talk to your cosmetic surgeon and see what the total benefits are and the disadvantages as well. Research and find out all there is to know about any cosmetic surgery before having it done.
