Who would have believed there could be a famous farmer from Key West right here in Brooksville, FL? Well I am here to tell you that it's true and his restaurant will make you a believer. He is Farmer John, of Farmer John's Key West Café which is located at 966 E Jefferson St. in Brooksville, FL. If you haven't been here yet, and you live within a 50 mile radius, WHAT's WRONG WITH YOU? Farmer John's is one of the area's best breakfast and lunch restaurants. No, actually, it's the best. Located in a colorful little building near Roger's Christmas House and just up from the town's other gem, Coney Island (subject of a future article), they relocated here a year or so ago from their previous little building on the north side of town.

The only way I can describe Farmer John's is great, wonderful, amazing, terrific. Warm and friendly, the team there, who seem to have been working together forever, are the best in the business. They always greet you with a smile, always happy to see you, and after a few visits, they actually remember who you are!! Remember that old show that had the song "you wanna go where everyone knows your name", well, that's the kind of place this is. I just can't say enough about all the amazing people who work there - from the owners to the wait staff and the cook who says thank you to the cow bell ( I know, but you have to go there to understand).

The place is colorful, small and intimate, bright and cheerful and always has great island music playing - yes, Jimmy Buffett is the standard! With tropical, good time's decor and a menu to satisfy all, even the grumpiest of customers leaves there with a smile. The menu ranges from a Cheeseburger in Paradise, to grilled Mahi, huge salads, fish, and omelets like the Key West, that are always perfectly prepared, loving served, and delicious - absolutely perfect. I can't go into detail, but if you want the best breakfast in town, made by the best cooks, served by the best people, in an atmosphere that makes you smile, then you have to go to Farmer John's. It's our little slice of Heaven right here in Brooksville - but well worth the drive to the country from Tampa. Come out, enjoy a wonderful, leisurely late breakfast and then go stroll around Roger's and then to the downtown farmer's market. But bring cash, because the Farmer doesn't take plastic. And don't be in a hurry, on weekends take a seat on the porch and enjoy the sunshine until they call your number off the tropical paint sticks.

So why haven't you been there yet? What's your excuse? If you want to feel better, get full and walk away satisfied in your stomach and your soul, then get up and get over there. A little piece of Key West right here in Brooksville. So to the team at Farmer John's - continue growing older not up!! Fins Up!!!
