A Little More Than Friends

Robin Jessie-Green
Can't we at least be friends?

I guess it all depends

on what that means to you.

Women having men as friends

end up with a pal who wants to do

a little more than

a best girl friend wants to.

As far as I recall,

friends with benefits don't hang out at the mall

They don't chit-chat about ex lovers

and reminisce about what went on under the covers

They don't set a date for pedicures

or test the perfume samples together at the department store.

You don't want to be my "friend"

You just want an easy way to get in

I don't need another mate

I don't want to make a mistake

So before our friendship even begins

I'll have to decline.

Our potential friendship is at its end

Because a friend like you is no friend of mine.

That's all men, at least all the "friendly" types.

Robin, this is your usual spot-on dissection of human nature, split wide open for all to see! Good good poem, thanks.
