A Little Piece of Flash Fiction

John Watson
There is another writing site that I am a member of that very much encourages the submission of fiction, prose and poetry. They recently had a little contest called Flash Fiction Challenge. Flash fiction is basically a story that has a beginning, middle and end but has to be told in exactly 100 words. I thought you guys might be interested in reading my submissions. I hope you all enjoy.......

SATISFACTION
"Satisfaction Guaranteed", the sign read.

The death clock, a novelty item that counts down the hours, minutes and seconds of your life. Purchased on a whim, the man drives home sneaking glances at his clock.

Eyes deceiving? The clock speeds up, hurtling towards zero, out of control.

Panic. Eyes leave the road and fix on the clock.

The car hurtles through the red light, and makes it through the intersection untouched.

Back at the store, the man laughs re-telling the story. The clerk smiles and then bludgeons the man to death with the clock as it flashes zero.

"Satisfaction guaranteed."

STRIPPED
Lights flash and music pounds as she steps across the stage. At 40, she's considered too old to perform. No-one will take her and she knows nothing else.

"Take it all off", is the chant.

She reaches inside her bag and takes out a serrated edge hunting knife. She presses it to her body, cold steel against hot flesh, and she slices.

Cries and screams fill the room, blood sprays like a spilled cocktail.

She turns to face her captive audience one last time and with steady hands she pulls away her flesh, baring her soul, stripped to the bone.

HORROR
Hands gripped tight over her mouth trap the scream that is building within.

The killer raises the axe overhead, rust or blood on the metal, it's hard to tell, but she can guess. He grins, a mouthful of filed down, blackened incisors fill the space before her.

As the axe begins it merciless descent, her world is rocked by two loud booming noises, impossibly loud in the enclosed space. Gunshots, the madman falls, and her world turns to black....... and the credits roll.

She jumps as a hand falls on her shoulder.

"How did you enjoy the movie?" he asks.

JUMP
"Please don't do it", she screams.

Glancing back at her, he mouths, "I love you." Time is up, he faces forward and jumps. Her shrieks fill the air for a moment until the whistling of the wind consumes everything.

He closes his eyes and time stands still for a moment. Life flits by like a cartoon flipbook, there and gone in a heartbeat.

Deep breath, slow and labored. Time stands still as he opens his eyes to reality, the ground approaching all too soon.

He braces for impact as the bungee cord tightens and pulls him back from the abyss.
