Camping and boating are still the main attractions of Lake George. Boats can be rented from any of a large number of marinas. Prices can be pretty steep to rent a motor boat. Expect to pay by the half hour or hour at a price that would provide a full day worth of boating elsewhere. But don't think that you're getting gypped. Lake George has some of the most beautiful inlets and hidden coves. Sandy Bay is a popular spot to drop anchor for those who have kids or who enjoy drinking. The crystal clear water is only about 4-6 feet deep in this area and offers fantastic swimming. If you like to go full steam ahead, there's plenty of room to zip across the waters at daredevil speeds. A popular attraction for those on Sea-Dos (which can also be rented at premium prices all around the lake) is to jump the wake of any of the three steamboats. Rides on the steamboats are reasonably priced and allow for a relaxing viewing of the hustle and bustle of this busy lake.
The Southern end of Lake George is where all the business is. Lake George village features a number of putt-putt courses, an arcade, carriage rides, and all the usual draws of any small, historic village. Fort William Henry is popular here. Campgrounds abound for the more adventurous traveler, but there are also inns and bed and breakfasts for those who like to kick back. It's almost as difficult to find places that aren't right on the shore as it is to find places on the shore in other locations at Lake George.
The Northern end of Lake George is home to the Adirondacks. This section allows for boating but no camping or building. Up here, boaters can view nature in its purest sense. In the fall, the changing leaves provide a beautiful backdrop, but the summer shows Lake George in all its beauty, I think
