A Logical Approach to LSI Using Google

Utilize Google in the Best Possible Way

Alden Smith
Google, in its never ending search to make content on the worldwide web relevant, has made strong inroads into latent semantic indexing. Latent semantic indexing is a vector based algorithm that allows Google to look at an article or website content and determine if it is relevant for the topic it is promoting. A mathematical formula, it has no human interaction in determining its findings.

Google has long been the king of content, and has advocated long and hard to make relevant content a reality. the death knell of spammy sites is heard loud and clear in the internet marketing world. No longer will webmaster be able to keyword stuff articles and content to have them rank high in Google's search engine results pages. (SERP's) Content will flow more naturally, and it will give the surfer the information he or she is looking for in a web search using Google.

Latent semantic indexing, or LSI as it is called, allows the writer to approach his subject with a clearer understanding of what to write about. The writer no longer has to have copy that is stiff and does not flow freely, dependent on keyword phrases. The article has a more natural sound to it, and is easier to read.

Many people wonder how to prepare an article for the web that takes advantage of LSI. there are many tricks to this, but probably the easiest is to refine your search on Google. If you are particularly interested in bum marketing, then you target keyword phrase is going to be long tail. Long tail keyword phrases are defined in many ways - what it amounts to is that long tail keyword phrases are generally 4 to 5 word phrases that have been researched by the author by drilling down from a root phrase. Let's look at an example.

For the sake of example, lets say you wish to target "weight loss" as your niche. By typing the phrase "weight loss" into Google, you will find that results returned yield 75,700,000 competing pages. Not a very good place to begin. But if you drill down into this keyword phrase, you find that "weight loss spells" returns only 16,100 sites. Keep in mind that when searching, quotes are used to be sure to return an exact match.

You might wonder at this point what this has to do with LSI. Here is where it gets fun. We will now search "weight loss spells" using a search parameter most people know little about. I will input the phrase like this - ~weight loss spells. By using the tilde (~) I will get my search returned with all synonyms that Google finds relevant for the term "weight loss spells." My preferences at Google are set to return 100 results from my searches, and as I scroll down I see in bold all words found relevant to "weight loss spells." By making a list of these words, I now have the phrases and words that Google feels is relevant to the search term. If I write my article using these terms, my chances of rating my article towards the top of the search engine results page are very high.

LSI is a more logical way to write. By using this strategy, you will not only have your articles rated higher in the SERP's, but will keep Google happy. A happy Google is what puts the cash in your pocket.
