Bedell Cellars - Cutchogue, NY
While Bedell Cellars is relatively young, with founding winemaker Kip Bedell making his first batch of wine in 1985 and the new Bedell Winery completing renovation in 2005, the land and buildings of Bedell date back to the 1700s. The owner of Bedell is actually New Line Cinema Co-CEO Michael Lynne, who brought a few winemakers in from the Napa Valley to raise the bar of winemaking on Long Island. The tasting house is in the original 1919 barn with a pavilion out back overlooking the hundreds of acres of vineyards and farmland. Visitors feel as though they just stepped onto a movie set, with the breathtaking views of the North Fork. Step out of the business of New York and into Old World Europe just by visiting Wölffer Estate in the Hamptons. This cozy winery sits atop 55 acres of breathtaking land and releases just 13,500 cases of world-class wine per year. While there is a fee for wine tasting, it is well-worth it. Every Thursday night, guests can delight in live music and complementary cheeses in the evening. Group tours are available by appointment by calling the winery in advance. If you are going by yourself or just with a couple of other people, you can arrange a tour of the winery on the spot.

The Hamptons are filled with an eclectic group of people, especially during the summer. Two things are very popular with the Hamptons crowd: art and wine. Channing Daughters Vineyards is the perfect place to visit for both. The small vineyard, located on just 25 acres of land, features fresh, handmade wine and incredibly sculptures and artwork throughout the property. Releasing only 7,000 bottles of wine per year, Channing Daughters offers a rare flavor and experience to visitors that are not from New York. Since the winery is so small, they do not offer tours. However, guests are welcome to their cozy tasting room.
Paumanok Vineyards - Aquebogue, NY
Most wineries on Long Island are family-owned and operated, often working with an outside CEO. Paumanok Vineyards, however, stands out from the wineries on Long Island. This small, 77-acre vineyard is owned and operated by the Massoud family, and has been since 1983. The entire family is involved with making the fantastic wines, of which only about 8,000 are released each year. The name, Paumanok, is the original name for Long Island and was made famous in a poem by Walt Whitman. The beauty and elegance described in the poem is precisely what you will find with Paumanok Vineyards and the wines they release.
