A Look at the Best Black Lipsticks of 2011

Sarah Afshar
Black lipstick is a tentative, yet very audacious lipstick shade. It is also very bold and dramatic. It is a well known fact that not everyone can pull it off, but those that can, enjoy it. Whether you are spontaneous and need a change or simply are looking to try something different altogether, black lipstick is right for you. Although it may not be everyone's "cup of tea" it exists for a reason. I have decided to narrow down the many black lipsticks to only the best of 2011.

One of the greatest black lipsticks of 2011 is definitely Make Up For Ever's Rouge Artist Intense lipstick in "50". Available at Sephora, this lipstick shade is a nice, satin black shade. Although the shimmer is very light, the shine is more observable. If you know anything about Make Up For Ever's lipsticks, they are bank. Make Up For Ever Rouge Intense lipstick can be purchased for just $19. Whether you want to create a gothic inspired makeup look or just create an image that is dramatic, be spontaneous and go for it.

I have to be honest, when I first discovered black lipstick, I was quite indisposed about even giving it a second look, let alone trying it. Then I saw a few makeup looks via YouTube, where I discovered that it actually can work on other days aside from Halloween. If you are looking for a great black lipstick, I would definitely recommend Illamasqua lipstick in "Pristine" You can purchase Illamasqua's lipstick for only $22 at Sephora or your nearest Illamasqua retailer. Illamasqua's lipstick in Pristine really does prove to be a rather pristine lipstick.

Black lipstick may seem uncommon, but it truly does subsists for a raison d'être. If I had to choose my personal favorite black lipstick, I would definitely go with Urban Decay lipstick in "Oil Slick". The thing I love most about Oil Slick is the fact that it is an extremely glossy black that is relatively sheer and possess silver glitter effects. It is a lipstick that is more flexible per say then your average black lipstick. Urban Decay's lipstick is available for just $22. You can purchase this lipstick at Sephora or any Urban Decay retailer. Out of all of the black lipsticks for 2011, this by far my personal favorite.

It's a well known fact that many of you reading this always purchase your makeup based on demand, more so than supply. When you frequent a store and you see something you love, you will purchase it. When you hear about the latest popular makeup item, you will purchase it. I bet the vast majority of you have never heard of Lime Crime cosmetics. One of the greatest black lipsticks of 2011 is definitely Lime Crime Opaque lipstick in "Styletto". Styletto is a very creamy black shade that is provoked by intense shine. It is definitely one of the best black lipstick shades of 2011 and I can't say that enough. Lime Crime Opaque lipstick can be purchased at the official Lime Crime cosmetics website for just $16. Some of the best kept secrets are those makeup lines that are not popular.

Despite black lipstick being rather exceptional, that doesn't mean that one should not wear it. You either love it or you hate it, however; if you do hate it, you can appreciate it, if you come across a look that you are inspired by, which includes it. One of my favorite black lipsticks is definitely NYX Round lipstick in "Penelope" which is a vastly rich black. NYX is a great makeup brand for those looking to save money, while enjoying quality cosmetics. For just $4, Penelope can be your's right now.

I remember watching a YouTube beauty guru doing a gothic inspired makeup look and using a black lipstick. In her list of products, she mentioned that she used "Naughty Nature". She forgot to say the brand of makeup and never included any information, other than the shade itself. So, being the curious woman that I am, I did a search to finally find out what she used was Sinful Color lipstick in "Naughty Nature". Naughty Nature is a very rich black with brown undertones. For just $4, this black lipstick can be your's today. Cherry Culture is a great place to find Sinful Color cosmetics. Don't hesitate or wait to purchase one of the best black lipsticks of 2011.

What I love most about the internet is discovering new products, especially those that are not as prevalent. I first encountered L.A. Girl years ago in a small store offline. I never tried their lipsticks, but did have the chance to try their eye shadow. I was impressed, I must say. For as affordable as L.A. Girl is, they definitely do deliver a promise. I was searching online for a black lipstick because I wanted to try a goth vamp inspired makeup look. That is when I found L.A. Girl Luxury Crème Color in "Dreamer". Dreamer is a very effervescent black. You can purchase L.A. Girl Luxury's Crème Color for just $3 at Cherry Culture. This addition to L.A. Girl definitely not only demonstrates, but proves why it is one of the best black lipsticks of 2011.

When searching for a black lipstick at Cherry Culture, I had the opportunity to come across L.A. Colors Matte lipstick in "Blackberry". This shade is very unique because it is a very rich black, but possesses some eggplant undertones. For just $2.50, you really admit that you can go wrong with purchasing this lipstick? Don't let the price fool you. This should be in your bag now, that is if you are looking for a black lipstick.

Quantity vs. Quality, is there really a true distinction? The reality is, yes, however; despite this, you can still make a product work if it generally works well. Black lipstick is generalized because it is not worn all of the time like pinks, nudes, beiges, reds, peaches, or berries. If you are looking for a black lipstick, you cannot go wrong with Wild and Crazy's lipstick in "Sensibility". Sensibility is a deep black shade that is semi-matte. You can buy Wild and Crazy lipstick at Cherry Culture for only $2.

Black lipstick is certainly a guilty pleasure to some. If you are one of those people that makes up that status quo of society, well you will definitely appreciate Jordana lipstick in "Black". This lipstick is a vibrant black shade. The quality may not be as good as Make Up For Ever, Illamasqua, or Urban Decay, it is also $1.49 making it incredibly affordable for those looking to save $20. You can purchase Jordana lipstick at Cherry Culture or select Jordana retailers.

Black lipstick doesn't have to be worn at just Halloween. When collaborated with other shades, black lipstick actually works for a wide-range, variety of makeup looks. Once one goes black, do they ever go really back? One thing is certain, nothing is better than being daring.
