First we have caveman Joel (Bill English) who has a Homo Sapien and beautiful girlfriend named Kate (Kaitlin Doubleday). To complicate matters, her mother Leslie (Julie White) owns the condominium complex where the three roommates live. Joel's best friend Nick (Nick Kroll) is wary of the Homo Sapien world and questions many of Joel's decisions including his relationship with Kate. And finally we have younger brother Andy (Sam Huntington) who is ready to take on the world. Meanwhile Kate's best friend Thorne (Stephanie Lemelin) just wants to unleash the "wild" side in these cavemen.
The problem for Cavemen is that it is an odd and satirical look at race relationships and prejudice. It has strong production behind it, Josh Gordon and Will Speck who developed the show also directed Blades of Glory. Mike Schiff and Bill Martin (executive producers) have worked on successful shows such as Grounded For Life and 3rd Rock from the Sun. Cavemen premiers on Tuesday night, October 2nd at 8PM on ABC and it will be up against strong competition from CBS' returning NCIS, Fox's Bones, and NBC's The Biggest Loser.
The negative reviews have already begun as Yahoo! has rated Cavemen as the second worst new show to debut this fall.
Unfortunately for Cavemen, TV shows based on television commercials rarely succeed. Remember Max Headroom?
