Reba enters its sixth and final season and even if you have never seen the show the plot is so simple you can follow with ease. On October 5th 2001 we were introduced to Reba's world falling apart around her. Her sixteen year old daughter, Cheyenne (played by Joanna Garcia) has become pregnant by her then boyfriend Van Montgomery (played by Steve Howey) and her husband; Brock Hart (played by Christopher Rich) has had an affair and been living away from the family. We come to find out that not only is Cheyenne pregnant, but Brock's mistress, Barbra Jean (played by Melissa Petermen) is also pregnant.
Van decides to do the noble thing and marry Cheyenne, but at the expense of loosing his parents. They kick him out of the house and so he gladly accepts Reba's kind offer to live under her roof. Meanwhile Brock divorces Reba and marries his mistress Barbra Jean and the two of them live four houses away. Barbra Jean is a bit of a ditz and won't seem to understand the she is the other woman in the family. She is constantly asking Reba for advice and trying to help out. Barbra Jean and Van both bring slapstick and quick wit to the show as its main comic relief.
Reba's other children Kyra Hart(Scarlett Pomers) and Jake Hart (Mitch Hollmen) are featured in some episodes but take a back seat to most of the other cast. Kyra is a smart underappreciated student who loves music but hates social activities. She is constantly making sarcastic and underhanded remarks. Jake is the youngest of the Hart children and more often then not gets into trouble just like any seven or eight year old boy would.
Of course in the center of this crazy universe is beloved singer and actress Reba McEntire who plays herself on the show, only minus the last name McEntire and she doesn't have a singer career. Reba is always patching everyone's problems, from Van and Cheyenne's early marital issues, Kyra's boy troubles, and even lending a helping hand to Brock and Barbra Jean when the situation calls for it. The show has comic genius throughout every episode to date, and the season finale is set to air as a two part event February 18th 2007.
A lot has happened to the Hart family in the past six years. Van and Cheyenne now have two children, Kyra is eighteen and getting ready for college, or maybe not, and Brock and Barbra Jean have slowly drifted apart and face divorce. Through it all though Reba manages to keep everyone's spirits high and the laughs coming. This show is what a family sitcom truly should be, and that's hard to find in a modern world. There is no foul language at all, nothing more then you would hear in a PG rated movie probaly less, and the humor is clean. Some of the bits are meant for a more mature audience but never anything vulgar or rude.
In an age where we have to be so particular about family friendly viewing Reba is a welcomed site. It's funny, witty and above all clean. You and your family will enjoy this show together or you as a working mother would love the style and context of Reba's comments. You can catch reruns on Lifetime every weekday.

Post a CommentGreat review of a great show. I will definitely miss this when it's gone. Yea for reruns!
I just recently started watching reruns of this show. I had no idea it was still airing new episodes. Looks like I need to catch up with six whole seasons.
