Implants will help you regain the beautiful look of a full set of teeth. There are various types of dental implants that you can have put in. This article will discuss some of these different types.

Root-Form

One of the most common types of dental implants is the root-form variety. They are used whenever the bone is wide enough to provide a strong enough support base. Root-form implants can replace one or more teeth.

The implants are placed beneath the gums and attached to the bone. The bone will eventually grow around the implant to further strengthen it. You will need between three and six months in order to recover from this type of implant.

Plate-Form

One of the next types of dental implants is the plant-form design. This design is used whenever the bone is too narrow for a plate-form implant. It has a long, flat shape to accommodate the narrow bone.

Like a root-form designs, these implants are placed beneath the gums and attached to the bone. It takes about three to six months for the bone to grow in and around the implant.

Subperiosteal

There are also subperiosteal dental implants. They are used whenever there isn't enough bone available for one of the previously mentioned designs. These implants sit atop the bone and need to be custom-made to fit your specific jawbone.

Material

Dental implants can also be made of different materials. They include zirconium and titanium. Zirconium implants have the benefit of providing the best look. However, titanium designs are capable of binding to the bone naturally and costs less.

These are some of the different types of dental implants. If the bone is wide enough, a root-form design can be used. Narrow bones need to be fitted with a plate-form design. Subperiosteal implants can be custom-made to sit on top of the bone if none of the other options are suitable.
